swolen fanny

hi everyone! i have a 8 month old chinese crested, i also have a siberan husky male, south affican boerboel male and a maily male, she is my only little bitch and i have never owned a female dog befor.

All my dogs love her and there are very happy all living together, i have notices that her little fanny is very swolen and looks alot fatter then normal, also she is acting very sad, and just wants cuddles and she wont leave are side and she dont want to play with the boys or be played with! is she ill? or is she coming in to her first heat? she is not bleeding. and the boys are never ruff with her and have not treated her any different. she has been like this for 3 days now. please any info will help! as we are goin on hoilday next week for 3 weeks and i dont wont to worry about her!

Take her to the vet - she may have impacted or infected anal glands, and they need to be expressed! This is not an uncommon problem in small breeds.

What do you mean by "fanny?" Are we talking the whole region, or just the female parts (vulva)? If it's the vulva, my suspicion would be her first season. You'll want to keep her separate from your males, if they are intact m(and I mean SEPARATE! The can, do, and will find ways to try to get to her).

But the fact that her personality is changing slightly would indicate a difference in hormones, which would tell me she is probably coming in.

PLEASE, make an appointment for a spay! The vet can advise you on a time frame, but generally, they like to wait till at least 3 weeks following the cycle (meaning after the bleeding has stopped), so you can probably make an appointment for about 6 weeks from now.

hi i didnt mean her bum i meant her lady bits, vagina! well she has started to bleed alittle today so she must have started her first one, how long do they last? 2 weeks? would she be ok to leave with a fiend when i go on hoilday? the bigger boy dogs are going to kennals but she is to little for them and hairless so we have a friend look after her on her own. she is happy wearing dolls knickes at the mo with a hole for her tail!

It can be slightly different from dog to dog.. but they are typically in season for about 3 wks... and they should be seperated from unneutered males for atleast that entire 3 wks because every dog is different as far as when they are "ready" to breed.. some can breed as early as 9-10-11 days into their season.. others 15-18-19 days in to their season... you just never know.

As long as your friend is able to keep her away from male dogs, and keep them safely confined so no one escapes then they should be able to keep your dog for you while you are gone.... assuming they don't mind having an inseason dog in their house, as they can get pretty messy!!! lol
