Why Owning a White Cat isn’t a good thing.

The Edster is a constant work in progress, I am always primping and fussing over his coat. I try to keep it short by clipping him when I can. He doesn’t take well to having the undercarriage shorn so I have to catch him when he is lazing about. His white fur is his best feature-I was going to add that he is smarter than I am, but this is a grooming post, not an intelligence test.

I did give him a bath a few weeks ago and since then have been catching small tufts of tangled hair that I have been semi successful in breaking up with my fingers. I longingly look at them and wonder about giving him another bath with some cat fur de-tangler shampoo…..

I think I may have a reason now. I went out to empty a pot into my compost heap and left the door ajar. In the 30 seconds I took to walk to and from the heap I noticed that there was a white cat on the loose in the yard.

He was hiding under the truck, well, not really hiding, but as hidden as a white cat can be.

I went into the house and came back with a bag o’treats, trying to tempt him out…..I really did want to go chasing after him…..When he ignored the tasty goodness I tossed on the concrete next to him, I used the good old go-to cat catching tool.

THE BROOM!

I grabbed it and tried to herd him closer so I could snag him before he made sport of me kneeling on the warm driveway. He did his usual “Possum Move” to make his capture more difficult.

The Possum Move is the automatic relaxing of any musculature making the cat you are attempting to pick up a sack of weight that is pretty much immoveable when you are squatting and have your arms outstretched.

Why do kids and cats have this gene - and why do they use it? Are they in league with the chiropractic offices across the planet?

I grab the Edster so he will not move any farther under the car, he goes limp and I drag him about 8 inches toward me.

CAUGHT!

I pick him up and give him a giant hug amongst the cloud of dirt he now has collected from his left front all the way back to his hindquarters.

If he was a gray cat, fine. A black cat would have showed the dirt and with a slight dusting off would have been O.K.

I get stuck with the white cat, gray dirt and date for another bath.

Lovely. The Edster has just now started to head back into the bathroom area after his last Bath and Torture session.

I think this weekend is a good time to re-bathe the Edster.

I just hope the people at Guantanamo Bay can give some tips on how to make it look like I am not torturing an ‘enemy combatant’.

If he were a Siamese cat I could pass it off as a "Crouching Human, Dirty Tiger" kind of scenario. But no, I have to have the American Feline who knows that if he protests loud enough, everyone within listening range will think that I am mistreating and possible abusing him.

Maybe I'll turn my self into the ASPCA or grab handfuls of dirt to rub into his fur.

The color change as he walks back and forth in front of me is really distracting!

THATS SO TRUE THAT THE SMALLEST CAT CAN MAKE HIMSELF FEEL MUCH HEAVIER BY RELAXING, OR WHEN YOU PUT THEM IN A CARRIER BY RUNNING TO THE FURTHEST CORNER AND CROUCHING IN ONE SPOT.
