Question To Take Dog or Not

My husband and I are separating. We have 2 dogs, a Boston Terrior and Weenie Dog. I would like to take the Weenie but I am afraid she will mourn her friend who keeps her company while we are at work. Does anyone have information that might help with this decision?

Some dogs will adjust easily, some won't. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is try.

Will you be near enough so that you could drop her off with the other dog for "doggie daycare" from time to time?

How old are the two dogs? Who came first? How long have they been together?

Sorry for so many questions ...

    to take

Thanks for answering. Chyna(weenie) has been with us for 6 years. Lucy has been around for about 2-3 years. They play sometimes but they also fight. Chyna is very attitudish!!!! When one goes out, she goes and gets the other. I am just so worried. Thanks for any help I can get

Have they ever been seperated before? (At the groomers, boarding at a kennel, on walks, etc.) If they were, how did they act? I know some dogs who have been together a long time who don't care if the other dog is gone, and then I know others that throw a HUGE fit when their "house mate" is out of their sight for even a second.

So, before you make the final decision, perhaps you could try to keep them seperated for a day or two and see how they act.

First let me say that I am sorry about your divorce. Though I have never gone through it, I know others who have and it is never easy. Has the boston terrier been considered his dog throughout the marriage? By that I mean is there a special bond between him and the boston? If there is, I would say that you have your answer.

If there is no particular bond, and ex-hubby doesn't mind, why not just take both with you. Is that an option?

I have always had two dogs at a time and of course when one has gone to the RB the other has had to adapt. Yes, it is a sad thing to witness those first few days or weeks when the surviving dog seems to be looking for the other one but they do come around. I hope it all works out for you.

What a difficult decision. I don't envy you. I'm so sorry you're going through a divorce. I would go with what Pam said. Best of luck in making a decision. I hope it turns out well for everyone(both skin and fur).

I was too connected to my dog to even think about this question. Amaya has stuck with me through thick and thin. I cant imagine life without her.

If the dogs fight, they might be happier seperated. Think about whats best for the dogs...as hard as it may be. Do you have time/money to support one or both? If the dogs are connected to him more then they should stay with him.

    I hope this helps.

    Talking

I want to thank everybody who has responded to my question. I love both dogs very much and would never hurt them in any way. I want to take Chyna so very badly but I am worried about her at the same time. Someone also suggested that maybe I should let her stay until I am settled and by then I should be able to see how she is doing. You have all had good ideas and I am so glad I found this site. Thanks for accepting me and giving some good advice!!!!!!!!!!
