Ford Explorer Sports Trac - need opinions

So.. I am looking for a new used car/truck.. My 93' Honda Civic finally broke down and no more can't be fixed.

I have been looking at vehicles that are somewhat allowing me to be able to see everything at a "higher" level than what I have been used to in my Honda. Because I am only 4'11", I would like to be able to see higher.

I've been looking at 2000-2002 Ford Explorer Sports Trac - just to show what it looks like -

You're the one sure thing I've found so you better stick around...

I have a blue sport trac, 2003. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Much better than a car and much easier to drive than either of the Pathfinders that I had. The seats rock. Everyone loves the seats in my truck.

I've HEARD SO MANY good things about this truck. How is the gas mileage?

I had a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport car, not the truck. The mileage was okay. I would average 22 on the highway, 17 in town. I just traded it in for a Fusion that is getting 27 in town, 35 on the highway.

I loved the Sport - it rode and handled well. We just needed one vehicle that gets better MPG, and Douglas would not give up his F 150.

Just keep in mind one thing...gas prices aren't going down. You couldn't get me to buy one of those big-a$$ things if you handed me the cash to buy it.

Good luck. It's a buyers market out there. Whatever you DO decide to buy, you will make a car salesman a VERY happy person.

    That is true.

I thought, what is the point anyways. It won't even matter in a year of what you have because, it's still going up... doesn't matter if it's a car or truck, or a hummer...

that is a good lookin sport trac!
i would get one if it looked like that but a regular one doesnt look like that, that one has the off road wheel fenders attached plus better rims and tires..very nice!

i somewhat considered getting one when i was looking at getting a truck but i ended up not really liking the look of them and just got an F150

My friend has one, she really likes it. It looks real safe too, I just bought my daughter a civic and it sure doesn't give you the safe feeling that the bigger autos give you.
don't breed or buy while shelter dogs die....

Have you tried - test-driven a Honda CRV? They are higher off the ground, get good gas mileage, have plenty of room inside, and are very reliable cars. Could be just the thing for you!

The gas mileage in my sport trac is pretty good. Considering it's a SMALL truck, much smaller than the F150 even. It will never match a car and you should know that up front. But it gives more versatility than a car or a larger truck.
