Delilah is my Americauna Hen. She has had a very trying time these last few months. Not sure if you rember, but back in february, she had managed to rip off a couple of her toe nails here is that thread incase you didnt see it. http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=139156
anyways, we were trying to figure out what she did. I walked the property trying to see where the injury occured. I found the spot in our Barn. What happened was she had decided not go in the coop one night, actually one of the coldest nights we had, and perched on our Metal Hay Rack. Needless to say, this decision cost her!! Her feet actually Froze to the Metal Hay Rack!! This is why she lost her nails, but to top it off, she got Frostbite on all of her toes. So the last few months we have been Nursing her back to health. She is almost Completely healed now, but is now somewhat disabled. She gets along fine, but is missing almost all of her toes. We have to keep her feet very clean, as they are still trying to heal properly. She has adapted very well, and I am so proud of her. Most Peole would say,s he is a chicken, just put her down. But she is not letting this hold her back, so why should I?? She is such a happy girl! If I felt for an instant, that she was not happy with her life, I would put her down, but I have yet to see that from her!
Here is my Delilah girl.
Here are some pics of her injuries. *Very Graphic pics, dont look if you are squeemish!*
For an example, my girl Lucy decided to be a foot model, so you can see what a chickens foot should look like!
