    Another Rescue Effort

I was on my way home from visiting my grandparents tonight, when I saw this dog on the side of the road. My grandparents live in the middle of nowhere, but this road is a pretty busy road as many truckers take it up to Dalton and Chatanooga.

I got out of the car and called the dog over to me and she was so friendly and sweet. She had no collar or tag. I felt her ribs and she seemed to be on the skinny side. Her coat was so matted around the ears, neck, tail, and butt. I put a sheet on my front seat and asked her to hop in and she did so gladly.

When we got home, I gave her some food and water and she inhaled them both! I put some advantage on her and she is now sleeping in my back room. She smells pretty bad and I didn't want to bring her into the rest of the house till she gets groomed tomorrow and bathed.

I will be trying to find a home for her ASAP. Draker will be coming home on July 3rd and she can'r stay here when Draker is home. He is very protective.

I have named her Roxey. I will try and set up an appointment to get her checked up by a vet. I have never had to deal with any doggy diseases and this is the first stray I have ever brought home. Anything I need to worry about that could harm Draker when he retunrs?

Poor puppy!!! I don't know of any diseases that you need to be worried about but that doesn't say much cause I don't know anything about doggy diseases........ GOOD LUCK finding Roxey a good home... What does she look like? Can you tell what breed/breeds she might be?

First, of course, fleas and ticks, the rest you can ask the vet! If her fur looks intact, that's good. There were no houses near where she was? Hope she's not just a "slipped the collar, went for a run and got lost" beloved girl of someone's heart.

I only say that 'cause she was so friendly!

She had at least 15 ticks on her and I safely removed them. I couldn't tell much about the fleas coz she is totally black, but I put advantage on her anyway.

There are no houses or anything for over 20 miles. I was so worried about her because of all those trucks driving on that road. I saw her on my way over to my grandparents, and she was chasing a truck! When I saw her on my way back after 5 hours, I felt like she wasn't were she was supposed to be.

I will take her to get groomed as she is in need of a haircut and a bath. I will take before and after pictures.

I just took Roxey to the vet to get groomed, dipped, a rabies shot, heartworm test, and fecal test. So far she has been great! Very social and sweet. I could not tell if she was spayed or not because her fur was out of control and it was dark when I picked her up.

Today, I will have her around children and be able to tell more about her temperment around kids. She rides exeptionally well in the car and was great with my 17 year old brother and 2 16 year old cousins who are visiting for the week. My neighbor even came by and pet her this morning after our jog and she was friendly.

I will bring her into the rest of the house today to see if she is house trained. She spent the night in my back room and didn't go potty till I took her outside.

I called the Animal Control from the County I found her at and asked if anyone had reported her missing, they said no. I called the only gas station in that area (the only place that has people in that 30 miles) and they said she had been frequenting the store for the past few weeks and they have been giving her some food.

If you know of anyone who would be interestd in Roxey, please let me know. I will post pictures today after I get her from the vet.

    How sweet of you....

It is just so nice of you to do this for this poor pup. Isn't just awful the way some of these animals are living? It could be that she ran away from her home, as some animals do, and that she was loved and cared for. Dogs can roam many miles away from home. I hope she finds a new owner who will be as kind to her as possible.

You have a huge heart! You are so SWEET...... I could just hug you forever, for taking care of this pup! It must have cost a fortune to have the Vet take care of her.

    Thank you, thank you.

I picked up Roxey today from the Vet and she looks GREAT! I can't wait to post the pictures I am taking of her. She is absolutely the sweetest thing I have ever met.

She tested negative for HW! Hurray and I started her on preventative. She also got all her shots and a haircut.

She has been inside the house roaming around and hanging out. She let me pet her and rub her ears as she ate and has been such a great lil girl. My friend Eugene will be bringinf his little girls over so that I may obseve her around children.

The vet said he couldn't tell if she was spayed. I don't know what to do to find out. Any ideas? He said she was about 3-4 years old. Everyone at the vet's office fell in love and said she was a sweetheart.

Pictures 1st thing in the morning.

Now that she's clean, will she let you rub her tummy long enough to look for a scar? All our dogs had a line scar, if you knew where to look!

    Souraya,

I'm suprised that the Vet couldn't tell if she's spayed.
Does she have very dense, thick hair? You should be able
to see a scar on her belly if you she'll let you rub her fur.
Do you think she's sweet and submissive enough that
Drake would accept her as part of your "pack"? Liz.

p.s. Another reason for her being so friendly, is that she
might have been dumped after being befriended.

Last night, I was able to observe Roxey around children and she did great. My friend's girls came over and they played with Roxey and cried and begged to take her home!

This morning, after our jog, some neighborhood dogs came over and played with Roxey and they got along so well.

She is potty trained. She nudged my arm in the middle of the night, and lead me to the front door. I put her on a leash, and sure enough, she went potty once we got outside!

Here are the pictures you have been waiting for!'

Souraya you have been elevated to sainthood in my book! What a wonderful thing you have done for this sweet dog. I know you would love to keep her for yourself if Drake would allow it but I am sure you will have no trouble finding her a good home. These pictures are just beautiful. No wonder you couldn't resist her. Please do keep us posted on Roxey!!
