    Alicat going to the whitecoats...

I'm a little nervous. Alicat has come SOOOOO far in losing her feralness. I made a date with the TEAM van to have her spayed in November. I'm afraid that when she comes back home from her visit to the whitecoats, all the work I've done to socialize her will be lost.

I worked with 3 feral boys a while back. They all did very well. Once I had them all fixed, all but 1 little guy did fine. Grumpy Dave as he was called, reverted back to his feralness and hasn't trusted humans since. He is now living in upstate CT on a farm.

Anyone with experience in feral socialization ever have this problem. I'd appreciate any suggestions you can offer.

I rescued two sisters, Kit and Kaboodle, both feral. Kit, unfortunately, died on the table while being spayed but Kaboodle lived, only to become so nasty afterwards, beating up every cat who came near her and she wouldn't let me touch her either, that she went to a farm about 50 miles south of me. The woman is a vet tech who has a separate building for rescues and Kaboodle is doing fine there as long as she can go outdoors, too. I wish I understood why she became so hostile when, up until that time, she became trusting and quite a lovey. I'm sorry to have to report this but it's something you may have to deal with, too. Hopefully not. I'm praying for you both......
    Blessings,
    Mary

Don't apologize. I'm prepared for it, believe me. I just hope she is only MILDLY pissed at me. We'll have to see.

Well Pouncer Roccalno Took Being Spayed And Needled Very Badly, And Not Only Did She Break Out Of Her Cage, But Out Of The Lucky Found Paradise Cat Hotel Completely.
And The Fact That Her Daughter Pouncer Karina Has Vanished To A Furr Ever Home Has Not Excatly Warmed Her Heart.
Shes A Feral Cat Again, But Hopefully If Shes Cold And Hungry Enough , She Will Sneak Back Into The Cellar Where She Will Find Food Water And A Bed.
I Pray One Day She Will Be A Lucky Found Cat.

I bet lots of folks here have had this experience with ferals

I bet most of the rescue folks here have had this experience.

The only silly advice I might have is to cover the crate/cage when you take her and don't let her see where she is going and coming back home. I would keep her confined to the smallest space possible once you get her home again. They can, if they want, do her surgery early in the day and let her come home that night. She would probably have to stay in the crate overnight. The only other thing I would do is to try to schedule it for when you have the most time (not working for days) if possible. She will need your love and assurance that she will be fine.

They may want you to drug her before she comes in......to relax her a little.

Good luck. She may just surprise you and pull through this with no problems at all.

    Keep us posted.
