What can this be? UPDATE post # 9

Last night I was petting Boo and noticed a soft rather large lump on her side. It is larger than the last joint of my thumb, and failry soft. It don't seem to be painful to mash on it, she just hates anyone touching her back there, even on a good day. It is not on her leg or hip but on the side, midway between her back bone and leg.hip. Any ideas?

I am going to watch it for a few days and if it is still there I will call the vet and take her in.

Here is about where it is..... (on her right side.)

It could just be a lump of fatty tissue which older cats tend to get. I'd make an appointment with my vet if I was you to have it looked at just to be sure. I sure hope it's nothing serious.

Was she vaccinated recently? It could also be a reaction to this.

It's probably worth getting her in to the vet's before the weekend. If it's an abscess (an injury that closed over too soon, trapping germs) she'll need medicine.

Probably worth getting checked out. It's most likely a fatty tumor that causes no harm. You might remember that Halo has a fatty lump growing on her liver -- not inside it. It swells and shrinks. It has never hardened. She doesn't seem to mind if we check it out every now and then. Our vet advised that the surgery to remove it wasn't worth the risk.

My guess is, with the pain on being touched near there, an abcess from a spat with one of her housemates (yeah, never happens, right? )

One of my long-ago cats had that...I thought it was a tumour! He was black, so I didn't see the scabs (not that I looked).

I would make a vet appointment and not "watch it" for a few days. Since your circumstances are different than others (you are gone month at a time for your job).

Back from the vet and he poked it with a needle and got some of it and put it on a slide to see what it was... Fatty tissue! Phew! A happy ending and a not worried CatMom here. He cleaned out her ears really good since her food allergies cause a junk build up and requested some of my recipes I use on the boat. I have to email those to him and his girls in the office said he will hand them to them and tell them to make that! LOL!

Whew! Been looking for an update. I was sure hoping it would be as good as it is!

If you haven't already, please think about starting a thread in General with some of your recipes.

lvpets2002, I think he gave me a deal today... Only charged me $23 and her ears were a mess but I do think we spent more time talking than him working.

Wonderful! Since it does hurt her to be touched near that area, is there anything else that needs to be done?

    Good news on Boo baby!
