What breed is this dog?? Please help me!

Scrappy is my dog. We have been told that he is a blue tick. We have been told that he is some kind of pointer. I dont know what he is and would love some help if you could please. He is my baby and i just feel like he has no idenity. And it is driving me crazy not know what kind of dog he is. So if you could please click on his name and take a look at him. If you have any pictures of you dog that looks like this and you know what kind he is i would love to see them also. Thank you very much. Cant wait to find out what he is.

I've never heard of a blue tick hound before so I'm going to see what information there is on that breed on the Net.
Scrappy is a really handsome & happy dog. I love his colouring.

Here is a listing I found on blue tick coonhounds:

The Blue Tick Coonhound were also refered to as Blue Gascons or French Staghounds. The Bluetick Coonhound origin is from Louisiana bayous and the Ozark mountains in the southern USA dating back to the early 1900's.
Their is a possible trace of their ancestry to the French hounds such as the Grand Bleu de Gasgogne bred with Bloodhounds and some foxhounds.
They are eager and alert were they are used for hunting.
They have been known to follow a cold trail of the animal they are tracking.
The Bluetick Coonhound height is 21-27" (53-69 cm) and their weight is 45-80 lbs (20-36 kg).
The coat is short but dense, and coarse to touch, with heavy black ticking on the portions of white background. There are usually markings of a tan color on the muzzle, at the eyebrows, and bottom of legs.
They enjoys walking with children. This breed loves water and has a very good temperment. The blue tick coonhound is usually tri-color and has mottled blue or black tics of color in a white coat with tan markings on its nose and ears.
They have a tendency to run off unfenced yards and go hunting.

I saw a picture of a blue tick coonhound on a webpage, and I think it's entirely possible that that's what your dog is - but my knowledge is very limited!
When I looked at Scrappy's picture, I thought Beagle(or Foxhound)/German Shorthair cross. Just an opinion, of course!

Welcome to Pet Talk! I have three greyhounds, and also a little dog whose breed background I will never know! So I know how you feel - my greyhounds have folders full of papers describing their lineage, but I can't even say with certainty what breed my Pup is!

First of all, I'd like to welcome you, Stac! I think that you're dog definatly is at least part blue-tick. But, I don't know what his temperment is like. I'm just looking at his colorings.

    Hope you come again!

    Hi Stac--

My uncle had a blue-tick for hunting, and that dog looked very similar to your Scrappy. Your dog also matches pretty closely the breed description that was posted. I'd say you've solved the mystery! He's a great-looking guy.

I know just what you mean about a dog's unknown heritage driving you crazy. I was, and still am, the same way about Kobie. All we know is that the shelter's ID of her breeds seems to be way off base, so we continue to make guesses, get other opinions, and research breeds. No matter what kind of mutt she is, though, we adore her all the same!

Scrappy definatly looks part Blue Tick Coonhound. Maybe part pointer too. Where did you get him, what's his history?

I would say that he is cross between a beagle and a bluetick, his markings are blue tick and the down size would come from the beagle.

I had the same problem as you with my dog Hannah, when I first got her everyone said oh my you got a blue tick, thats going to be a big dog. I didn't know what breed she was all I knew was that her mom was a pure bred beagle. As she grew up the vet told me that she either had some GSP in her or was just a plain ol beagle with blue tick coloring, which are not that commen but it does happen (a show breeders nightmare).

He sure is handsome he has the same markings as Hannah does on his legs and chest.

she has brown freckles up her legs and it changes to black freckles on her chest and belly.

    ilovehounds,
Scrappy does look like that puppy!
But I see what you mean about the GSP.Wish
I could see a profile shot of Scrappy.

Hannah doesn't like the rain? Do you mean
pouring 'cats & dogs' rain or just showers
    type rain?

Scrappy is so cute! I can see some kind of hound in there, whether it's the blue tick or possibly the foxhound or beagle, and maybe some GSP. Like Sue said, whatever he is, he is adorable

Scrappy is quite beautiful. I would say for sure Scrappy is at least part blue tick. Scrappy looks like he may have some GSP in him too. It's pretty common for hunting hound breeds to be *mixed* so I would not be surprised if he is mostly blue tick with a little GSP. But whatever breed, he's real pretty.
