I wake up from my sea of dreams
My throat is ready to let a scream.
An image frozen inside my head.
A periscope beside my bed!

To and fro the scope will ride.
The rest of the ship? below will hide.
My interest piqued, I clear my head-
It's just my cat, beside the bed.

In the darkness here, his long white tail
Catches my eye, It never fails
It patrols my island, my place of sleep
What does this periscope really seek?

I gauge the travel from my bedding,
From there I see it's real heading.
Submarine cat patrols the floor
I see you go right out the door.

He's back again, another pass!
What does he want?- I'll have to ask!
Ahoy there cat, why do you brood?
Do you want water or dry food?

Or are you prepping for battle stations?
An quick attack or are you patient?
If I close my eyes and lower my head
I know you'll run across my bed.

A torpedo run at max speed.
With defenses down That I do not need!
You're on my radar, you crazy cat.
I pay attention to where you're at!

Periscope down, He's out there, lost!
A new attack? And what's the cost?
He'll sink my dreams if he strikes fast.
I can only hope this sleep will last!

Area patrolled, Submarine stalks?
I know the threat, the way that periscope walks-
That fuzzy tail, off the starboard, then port-
confuses me now, tries to catch me short.

Through sleep addled eyes I try to keep pace-
This UnderseaKat wants to get in my face.
A little meow-Like a radar set ping,
Testing my sleep-it's a sneaky sub thing!

They attack plan is ready, I brace for the surge
Where will he jump? Where ever his urge!
My feet are the target, right at my toes.
The weak link he's found, somehow he knows.

Defense is an option, I do have to fight!
The cat has gone crazy, he's lept from my sight.
One more attack, he's using the plan
I need some offense, I do need a stand.

Here comes the sub cat, He back on the bed,
He's just made a move, to run over my head!
I lunge for that kitty, his attack I must stave.
I don't think my cat, wants to behave.

I have him captured, we wrestle a bit.
I'm trying to sleep, Behave you little "turd"
Now that I've won this one sided war
I get to sleep, a little bit more!
