    Found a cat, update #8

Late last night my sisters found a cat in our garden. She's a longhaired calico cat and she's gorgeous. She's older. She's covered in mats and has a dirty pink collar with no tags. I suspect she's been out a long time but she is very friendly. She's front declawed and i'd assume spayed but we'll find out. Right now she's in a kennel in the garage. We are going to give her a shave tonight to get all the mats out and a bath maybe with flea shampoo just in case, but I don't see fleas in the dirt. I checked all the print and online lost and found ads I could and we will call the shelter to see if anybody reported her missing. If nobody claims her, we plan to keep her. She's certainly not stressed by the dogs sniffing around the kennel.

Oh poor kitty, but I'm glad you found her and took her in. Is she eating? Drinking? She may be dehydrated if she's been out a long time. Hope it's not too hot in your area. I'm sure she'll love a good clean-up.

    Thanks for caring!

Sadly she was probably once a Companion Cat and either her so called Guardians moved or they got tired of her. Thank God you were there to give her a second chance at a Furr Ever Home.
We are praying that you will keep her.

Its been very hot recently for our area, mid 90's. Its much cooler in the garage. I know that my mom gave her some food today, but I don't know what it was. Its gone but the dish is in the kennel. She's got water, but she could probably drink more if she' weren't a little stressed from being lost and found and put in a strange kennel.

Catmandu: that could just be the case, since she seems quite old. Out with the old cat and in with the kitten. I do know this, I am asking in my online ad for the caller to describe her, not offering any info other than female cat. If she's only been outside a day or two and she looks like she does (matted so bad she has limited movement of her front legs), we just might not recognize the description.

Sorry, out of film, I attended and stood up in wedding this weekend and used 3 rolls.
Kitty has been shaved. She sat quite still for it as if she'd done that before. Then she put up a war when she got washed. We were happy to see her moving around a lot. We've discovered: a healed cat bite by her left arm, burrs stuck in a mat, a bald spot on her right side, rolls of excess skin suggesting she was once fat. The biggest mat was almost 4" across. She's in the shed now since it gives her more room than the kennel. She'll see a vet before she comes inside, especially with the bald spot. No scabbing or anything nasty by the spot. I found a can of turkey gravy in the cubbard, still good. So now she forgives me for the bath . She doesn't belong to the new neighbors. I think she's been outside for at least a month.

Certainly can't let her escape now. Her fur may have been her only protection, though soon to make it very hard for her to move. I bet the cat bite was a while before the fur grew. Maybe she was stressed from her last haircut and escaped while it was short, and it grew in while she was loose. I bet it was one of them lion cuts, and she ran away in embarrassment.

Thanks for taking her in. Poor little thing. Apparently she's found a new home!

But...try checking tabbytracker.com and petfinder.org in addition to the ads. Just in case there's someone crying tonight over their very lost and loved kitty.

Take care of the one that has been sent into your care, She will reward you many times over for saving her. How long before you get her to a vet? I know she is happy at last to be rid of all those knots and have a steady meal.

Oh poor sweet girl! I have a special fondness for calicos. If she was matted that badly, it's doubtful that she was outdoors only a day or two. And if she has a collar, you would think that an ad would have been placed by her family that should be looking for her. I, for one, hope you get to keep her. You've already taken such good care of her. But I wouldn't want her family to go without her if they truly lost her due to no fault of their own. Please keep us posted and bless you for taking her in and caring for her.
    Blessings,
    Mary

Thanks all. We should be able to get her in with the county vet this week yet if one of us adults gets out of work early. We didn't get to call today in time to see, but they usually can spot a quick visit the day of or the day after you call.

She sure sounds like a sweetheart. Thanks for rescuing her and giving her the loving forever home that she deserves. I hope that she'll receive a clean bill of health at the vets. Good luck.

Kitty is doing good. Vet on Monday. Nobody has reported her lost to the humane society, nor in print anywhere. She is just so darned affectionate. Now the hard part...what to call her. We have my mom's suggestion: Fluffy. I thought maybe Tuesday (we found her Tuesday). My little sister's would be happy with anything that shouldn't be a name (they wanted to name the dog Newt). Its going to be hard to find something everybody likes.
