Advantage Users-This can save you money

I use advantage on my three cats. They are all over 10lbs so I use the one for big cats. It comes in packs of 6. Anyway,since I have 3 cats it doesn't last very long and is quite expensive. I was at the vet today and I learned that the formula for dogs and cats is the same and it's only the quantity thats different. So I bought the advantage 6 pack for dogs over 55lbs. They gave me a tube to squirt the advantage into and a syringe marked with tape to measure the amount with. Each tube will be enough for all 3 cats and I'll still have some left over which I can save for the next time. This should now last me a good 6 months instead of only 2 months with the big cat kind. It's only about $5.00 more too. What a savings. I just thought that I'd share this with everyone. If you use Frontline, it may be the same as well. Just ask your vet.

Man! Too bad my dogs are big. Jake is already getting the biggest or second biggest dose. So expensive, but so worth it.

I'm using Advantage for Fister as he's allowed out every now and then. I get it in a pack of 4 pipettes (0,8 mg each) but only use a few drops on his neck about once a month. What is left on my finger, I smear on the top of his tale. I find it sufficient and one pipette lasts for 4 times!

I just wanted to pop in with a quick note on dog vs. cat products. KAK was correct in that she checked with a vet first about the possibility of using the dog version of advantage on her cats and got explicit instructions on how to do so. This is very important as cats can react differently to certain products that are made for dogs. Some dog products can be deadly to cats, even in the smallest amount.
Be sure to keep in mind that if you are using a product other than advantage to check with your vet first and get instructions like KAK did with her vet.
Never use a product with permethrin on your cats, as it can cause seizures.

Yes Rachel, it's for fleas. It can be used on kittens as small as 8 weeks old. My cats are indoor only cats but in Feb. 2001 they got fleas. I may have brought them in from outside or a neighbors cat may have brought them in. I live in a condo complex and we have carpeted hallways. So ever since this happened, I been using advantage and I haven't had a problem. It's quite expensive and since I learned about buying the big dog kind and measuring it, I can now save a lot of money. I just wanted to share this with everyone because there are a lot of people here with more than one pet.

Last summer all four furkids got fleas...I guess they came through the screens? Anyway, I learned that you can use Kitten Advantage on Rabbits...fun huh? It worked great!

my kitties have fleas right now for the first time and I used Advantage on them. Is it really that effective? I am totally creeped out because the cats sleep in my bed and I found a whole bunch of fleas on the blanket (gross!) Anyway, I washed everything but I am still worried that they are still around..
Also... I used a spray around the house that the Vet gave me which contains Diazonal, but I am worried that its not safe for us and the cats... Any advice on this?

Not sure about the spray...I'm sure it'll work well if your vet recommended it. But, Advantage really worked well for our critters. You should bathe (or get them bathed) after a week and use a flea comb daily...that'll ensure a clean and flea free kitty.

Advantage has worked very well on my cats. I haven't seen any fleas since.
