My chihuahua likes to chew on branch twigs she finds in the backyard. Is there any harm in that?

I don't think there's anything wrong with chewing on sticks.

I would be very careful, they are so little they could get stuck in her throat since she is a small breed.
Thanks so much Ashley for the siggy!

I disagree. they can block and I once saw on emergency vets on animal planet that a girl was playing with her golden retriever and threw a stick and it got caught in his mouth and they had to surgically remove it.Originally Posted by Roxyluvsme13

Please just be careful not to let your pup swallow the peices she chews off.
Too many foreign objects can cause blocking and that can turn into an emergency quickly.

Even if they don't actually swallow the stick pieces you need to be careful because sometimes they can chip teeth or damage their gums while chewing sticks.

The only thing I'd worry about is making sure none of the twigs are coming from poisonous plants. Some trees are poisonous. Not many are out there, but just in case.
Other than that I'd say just let her enjoy being a dog.

Please, if your dog is arthritic look into getting it Elk Velvet Antler. Look up my posts on it, PM me, or look it up on a search engine; but please if you love your dog and want it to live many more years consider this option. I've seen so many posts on here about dogs needlessly suffering. I can't make a new post about EVA every time so this plea is going here. EVA also helps with other ailments such as anemia.
