    constant licking

Does anyone have this problem? I have a bichon/shihtzu mix that is constantly licking his paws and then licking his nose. He does this for probably 5 minutes at a time. He doesn't seem to have a rash or anything, but it gets very annoying and I'm confused as to what it might be. Any ideas would be helpful.

Yes, my Australian Shepherd does the same thing. It drives me nuts!!! She doesn't have hot spots or rashes either. There is some spray you can purchase at a pet store. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they are allergic to the grass. Even though there are no visible symptoms.
I tell her to stop and she does for the time being, and then later she is right back at it. I almost wonder if it's not a habit she has formed.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

Man.. Zeke licks his feet at night! Its so annoying.. not sure why.. there's nothing abnormal about them. We just firmly say 'Zeke." and he stops.. lol. But if we just let him go.. he'll do it forever... I'd definitely agree with taz_zoee and say its a habit they've formed. We just get after him enough and he stops for the next couple of days usually.. not sure about a permanent fix.. a spray might work though.. Kinda like that stuff people use to stop biting their nails, I guess.

Samson is 14+ and does the same thing. He thinks his name is Samsonquitlickin! I tried the sprays and he licked it off. Now he runs if I pull out the bottle. In his case, it's a habit. Sort of a pacifier for when he's bored.
