Too much Vitamin E?

My cat Smudge has huge eczema lesions on his face, which I was rubbing with cod liver oil, but he licked it all off almost immediately, so I switched to vitamin E. He likes that even better! He ends up with more on his tongue than on his ouchies. He's crazy for the stuff. It's one of the ingredients in his 3V Caps, so I know it's OK for cats to have vitamin E. But is it possible for him to get too much? I know it's metabolized by the liver, and humans' livers can get overloaded with too much of a fat-based vitamin, but cats'? I'm not sure.

Following up on my own post...

It turns out that there's no known toxic dose of vitamin E in the cat (which actually makes it better than cod liver oil, because you can give a cat too much vitamin A or D). But here's the odd thing - in really large amounts, it's an appetite suppressant. I guess Smudge is about the right weight, but last night he didn't even want his CET chew (his favorite treat) until later in the evening. His lesions are dry this morning, so at least he hasn't clawed them open again.

And if he ever gets too fat, I know just what "treat" to give him to curb the munchies!

How did you find out?

Glad he is leaving them alone - I hope they heal soon!
