Spayed females still spray??

I had a problem with my cat always being in heat and spraying. I had her spayed a week ago. Today I saw her spray the curtains again. Any thoughts?? I didn't know spayed females sprayed?!?

Someone that can give better information will speak up, but at what age was she spayed? Our cats were all spayed/neutered at young ages, so we don't have a problem with that, luckily.

Wow, this shows how much I know. I always thought only male cats sprayed. I guess I learn something new every day.

My cat is almost 3. I just had her spayed last week. The first time she sprayed was about 3 weeks ago. I thought spaying would end the spraying..now I have no clue what to do...grrrrrr

Can you ask from your vet what to do? I also can't tell what to do, our Kitty has never sprayed, she was spayed at the age of almost 8 months.

I think you have to be a bit more patient . It takes a while before the operation results are showing ... ! It is of course also important to have your cat spayed as young as possible ; 6 months for a male , 8 months for a female .
How old was your cat exactly ??

Oh, what a stinky thing spraying is. Yes, I've known spayed females to spray even though its pretty rare. We had a spayed female that sprayed outside on a few occasions - but only if she was really upset or mad about something.

In the meantime, you have to be really nice to her and probably need to remove or clean the curtain since they always seem to like to "reinforce" their scent.

I mentioned in a previous thread that there's a great product called Kitty Scram by Kleenco that might help remove the smell. You may need to check out www.kleenco.com for a distributor.

Oh yes, females spray! Check out the thread entitled "Help! Pee Pee War" in this section to see what I'm talking about.

But, never fear! It really does take a little while for your fuzzy female's horomones to calm down after surgery, and remember that she was an adult (who had already experienced being heat) at the time of surgery, so give her a little EXTRA time to "change" those old habits.
The two females that we talked about in the "Pee Pee War" saga have both been spayed, one as an adult (like yours), and one at aprox. 8 months old. Both have been with us for at least 4 years and began spraying about 2 years ago, simply because they have grown to DESPISE each other.
Try some Feliway (get it at Petsmart) to help reinforce your kitty's "positive marking" (face rubbing) instead of spraying. If it is just a bad habit & not a problem (like mine), it should really help! Good luck!

Thanks for all of the advice. I just bought some Feliway today. I am trying to be patient with her but my husband is a whole new story. My cat goes back to the vet on Friday to get her stitches removed ...that should make her happy (yeah right!)...LOL!

I don't really know much about spraying but hopefully she'll stop soon. Has there been a change of any kind? Sometimes a cat can become stressed out from a change in their environment and then they start spraying. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Beastia, give her time to accept the fact that she no longer has female drives as she once did, after her spaying. I have a female furkid that would spray once in a while, until I got her spayed, and then the behavior stopped, but not immediately.
