    Found Claw In Cochise's Head!

My two stud muffins (not really; all my cats are fixed), Schuyler and Cochise, were engaged in a standoff, mixing it up as they sometimes do, and meaning business. I intervened to break up the foray. Busy doing a hundred things at once as usual, I later noticed Cochise had taken his usual spot on the couch, and then out of nowhere I witnessed my other (young and full of vinegar!) male, Chaz, saunter by and take a swipe at reclining Chochise.

Several hours later, Cochise happened to walk by and I saw something sticking out of his face. Upon closer examination, it was a claw, embedded in his head directly above his eye!!!

He is a big, placid cat, and given his muscle-head he probably didn't even realize it was there, but when I pulled it out the puncture wound bled a few droplets. I put peroxide on it and the bleeding stopped.

I checked Schuyler's claws to see if there was any evidence of one broken off/missing (possibly, but hard to tell because I keep them clipped) but Chaz is a brat and I cannot handle his feet . . . heck, I can barely TOUCH him; he only loves up to his Daddy and that is when he feels like it, which is rare. So . . . I am not certain what cat left the claw protrouding from Cochise's face, but thankfully it missed his eye and he is none the worse for it, as he is tough as nails.

Well, cats claws do shed, so it is possible that when he swiped and the point of the claw stuck in him, that's when it came off. It's a possibility.

Happens with my boys all the time.
They often leave their claw sheath in the other one while fighting.

    Yep, it's a shedded claw-sheath. I also have a spunky "attack" cat and a mellow sweetie, and a big kitty who's in-between.

Funny aside: my big "in-between" kitty, Percy, chews his nails while he's waiting for me to serve up breakfast or dinner!
