    Dear Grandpa,

Thank you so much for the yummy sticks you gave me to help my celebrate my confirmation. It was a special day for me, and your gracious gift made it even better because you know I just love those sticks you bring!

    Thanks again,

    Love, Miss Hoppy

Really the most important part is that you write a note expressing thanks. I'm sure you "get" that you can just substitute the proper info for the pink parts in above sample - that'll give you a starting point!

    And add this, too!

I enjoyed seeing you at my celebration.

If you received money as a gift don't write down how much they gave, but instead write something like this:

Thank you for your generous gift and for celebrating my confirmation with me. You helped make the day even more joyful.

A couple suggestions I always gave my kids for writing thank-yous: Each note should have at least three sentences.

(1)State the gift you recieved.."thank you for the pretty stationery" If it is a cash gift, simply call it cash, check, etc. No need to state the amount.

    (2) Make a personal comment. "I really needed some stationery and especially like the color blue". If the gift is cash - tell the person what you hope to use it for. "I have been planning to use it to buy a new CD I have been wanting" or "I am putting the money towards an MP3 player I am saving for"

    (3) Say thank you again

I feel that including these things in a note indicates that you are thanking someone for a specific gift and not just writing multiple versions of the same note. It lets the person know that you appreciate the gift and have plans for using it. Saying thank you again is a good way to end the note.

Good for you asking for suggestions about writing your notes. Try to get to them quickly and perhaps only write 3-4 at a sitting so you don't get too tired of writing things and to keep your comments fresh. Receiving a thank you note can be a very happy and affirming gesture for the person who cared enough to get something for you.

    All great suggestions.
The worse "thank you " note to receive is "thank you for the...." sign your name. Very rude to the sender of the gift.

I am still thinking about your thank you notes I had a few more ideas to add.

It will make the writing more enjoyable if you pick out some cute notecards that you really like. No need to be official "thank you" notes. I keep cards with kitties on them and this is what I use. When I buy stamps at the post office, I always ask to see what stamps they have and choose something I like: current stamps have Hershey kisses on them. I also keep an assortment of stickers handy to decorate my envelopes. These are such little things but they make the writing more fun and I believe it helps the person I am writing feel appreciated

Please know that many of us gift-givers truly do enjoy your thank you note! It is a pleasure to be able to open an envelope and see handwriting. E-mail. IM's, text messages, etc are wonderful, but I don't think they will ever bring the thrill of real mail.

Now, how is the writing coming along?
