Another one (mill) bites the dust!

RCMP seize 102 dogs from Rosebud property
Last Updated: Friday, March 16, 2007 | 2:55 PM MT
    The Canadian Press

More than 100 dogs, including some in distress, have been removed from what the RCMP believes is a large-scale breeding operation in southern Alberta.

Police say they found the dogs early Thursday while checking a residence for a firearm near the community of Rosebud, about 80 kilometres northeast of Calgary.

A total of 102 animals were found on the property, including the main residence and a number of outbuildings.

Mounties say they also seized a loaded .22-calibre rifle, ammunition and some marijuana.

The dogs are being cared for by the Strathmore Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Calgary Humane Society.

A 43-year-old man is facing several firearms charges and will appear in a Drumheller courtroom on April 13.

Police say it's possible that more charges may be laid in connection with the keeping of dogs.

I heard about this in the news yesterday. Do hope the doggies can all find good homes and don't go back with their "owner". I'm sure I read somewhere that this person had the opportunity to get them back.

The owner is facing firearms and drug charges...I'd say her chances of being able to get any dogs back are both fat and slim.

And if they add the animal charges, which they are thinking of(and may have done by now), snowball in h***.

    I hope and pray!

Gayle - there is a kitten mill too, somewhere in the SW - trying to recall who it is, and wondering why she hasn't been shut down. I believe she supplies to PetSmart in the city (NOT Petland, who seem to have a really good, consicientious adoption program).

Must avoid PetSmart then for sure, although I don't go there very often at all. Don't really like their store. Did go to Petland today and saw the biggest black rescued cat ever. Gave he/she a pet and he/she didn't flinch or move, just have been sound asleep.

Why haven't they shut down this kitty mill in the SW?
