    Do cats get tummy bugs?

I had a stomach flu last weekend, and now it seems like my cat Smudge has it too. He hides a lot, although the extreme cold lately and his extremely warm choice of hiding place (under the bed against the wall that backs up on the boiler closet) may have something to do with it, and has thrown up every day for 4 days in a row. But he's still digesting most of his food, and asks for his "treat food" (canned with vitamins, extra water, and bonito flakes mashed in) morning and evening. He's perky and playful and purry, and aside from not keeping all his food down and being out of sight so much, he seems more or less his usual self. Might this be something that could clear up on its own? It's way subzero with the wind chill, and I don't want to be lugging him across town if he might have just caught a virus from me or something.

Meanwhile, I've mail-ordered a Thermo Kitty Mat for his favorite chair, so he can snooze out in the open and still stay warm. (I have no thermostat - I live in the basement and my heat is the hot water boiler for the house, so it does get cold down here!)

I don't believe cats can pick up human viruses ... But I could be wrong ... Is there something different in Smudge's food? Cassie throws up almost all the time when I try to give her Fancy Feast. She loves it, but either she eats it too fast or it's too rich, because she often vomits partially digested food a few hours later. When I hear that sound - I put her on the kitchen floor, quick! I've just learned to give her verrrrrrry small amounts of the stuff at a time. I've heard about other cats in the same situation.

Aaahh, I have been defrosted! Thank you, Bonny and Asiel!

His food hasn't changed. And now he's out on his favorite comfy chair again, so maybe he's over the worst of it. At any rate, by next week he'll have gotten a permanent warm spot out of it!

A little while ago he vanquished the Looming Backpack, knocking it over and exploring it thoroughly before curling up for a snooze. I'm beginning to think it was just some transient bug.

Looks like it was just some random bug - he's fine now, snoozing out in the open on his favorite chair and not getting sick any more.

Like the other post said, cats cannot pick up colds and flu bugs from us. But, our Nicholas just recovered from a " 48 hour " flu. He was lethargic, not eating well, NO PLAYING, and just wanted to be left alone. When I came into the kitchen this morning, I was greeted by Nicholas' MEOOW! We are very happy our boy is his old self again!!! Hope your cat continues to improve.
