It could be breed specific. Some dogs will shed year around heavily. Keeping them inside all the time helps keep them shedding continuously. I have one like that now.

If the dog is itching or scratching in addition to suddenly losing large amounts of hair, then it could be related to flea allergies, other allergies, or hypothyroidism.

If the skin does not appear to be inflammed, bug bitten, or scaley then it's most like breed specific. When in doubt have a Vet appraise the dog.

If your nieghbor is concerned with her dogs health, make sure she has taken him to see a Vet, first and foremost.

A poor coat can be related to lots of things... diet being a BIG factor. What kind of dog food does your neighbor feed? If she buys grocery store brands, tell her to check out kibble at local feed stores & pet specialty stores with high quality ingredients. He could also have food allergies, with the current food he's eating.

I am guessing that you ment pancreatitis ( an inflamation of the pancreas, along with other symptoms) ...
From what you have described and others have asked, please have your nieghbor get the dog into a vet, if they have not already...
We can not make a good informed choice of what is going on here. That is up to a vet especially since it is a health issue and may turn out to be more serious then anyone here can help with...

The suggestions that have been put forward here are good, and if it is only a food allergy, or a nutrition issue then the change to a good quality food is a good remedy............ *****BUT***** with out a health check by a vet this may be something that may or may not be related to her past pancreatitis or a nutrition issue... Only a vet that can see the dog and examine it physically can make a truely iinformed decision...

Is your neighbor that you are referring to an adult, I ask this since they are having you do the research for them....
    "I have been DEFROSTED"
    Corgis are energetic, agile, intellegent,
    lively, cheerfull, sturdy and loyal...
So in otherwords a corgi can be a
short stocky never ending fur ball
of fun..What the not so understanding
may call a pain in the rear...

I agree- to the vet. Keep us posted. She also needs to ask the vet how to add something in the food to help the coat, but wont inflame the condition.

BTW- the vet is necessary- but tell her that this condition is treatable. Femka has a spot on her spleen that makes this condition in her. I use a product to help her without making the side effects like diareah etc- but until the vet sees the dog- I will hold up in saying what that is.
