Wheat Germ Oil Capsules

Can some please answer this question,..I want to give my bitch some Wheat Germ Oil Capsules as I have heard that these benefit pregnant bitches and should be taken for the first 3 weeks after mating,..after searching could only purchase in the human form,..My question is this,..Can I give my bitch these capsules?

ingredients.
each capsule contains wheat germ oil extracts 288mg and vegetable oil 12mg,
in a gelatine capsule. Each 440mg capsule contains at least 7.5mg of natural vitamin E.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,thanks in advance best wishes M.

Uh no.. problem- it makes gas, and a pregnant bitch already has slow digestion. If you give a supplement- you use red raspberry capsules ( one capsule dumped in food twice a day for a 60 pound dog or higher) and vitamin C at 100 mg for the same weight dog. Red raspberry helps the hormones cope with the changes, and vitamin C helps hydrate the bitch and pups.
Also I use to break up the feedings into 3 meals at half way mark. They need more food when pregnant- but too much food at one time is not helping her. I add 1/2 the normal diet to a mid day feeding. Chicken livers ( raw) is great for protein, and of course- cottage cheese. Also the multi vitamins should be given at night as the water soluable vitamins leave the system in urination- I use missing link.. Hope this helps- if you need more help- PLEASE FEEL FREE to pm me-

Thanks for the reply,..So you advise against Wheat germ,I read an article and thought it would help this time around with my mating after believing re-absorption last mating,..Was lead to believe that it will help below is a copy of the article.

As recommended by the vets at Vital Pet Health .co.uk This product is contains 200 capsules

The wheat used in the production of this oil is not obtained from genetically modified sources. Wheatgerm Oil capsules are a Vitamin E supplement, given to maintain fertility in both male and female dogs and cats. The recommended maintenance quantity is given to both the male and the female dog and cat for one week before mating, increasing to double this amount on the day before and the actual day of mating. Continue to supplement the diet of mated females for three weeks after mating to protect against abortion or absorption. Vitamin E is also necessary to maintain the skin, coat and nervous system in good health so may be given as a year round addition to the diet.

Ingredients:
Wheatgerm Oil 278mg,
Gelatin, Glycerin

I must admit its the first time I have heard of this and have no real experience concerning supplements,..I do know that my breed Dogue de Bordeauxs are prone to re-absorb,..As was looking for ways to improve on this.

all I have found with it- is that it makes gas- especially later in pregnancy..

Why not give the pure wheat germ oil with her food. You can buy a gallon at any horse feed store. My dogs get fish oil, wheat germ oil, flax oil and canola oil daily and are as healthy as can be. Most breeders that I know give the same thing, that's where I learned about it.

Thanks Borzoimom,..Mike do not think I could find this where I live in the uk,..I have the capsules now and really wanted to know if the human form will be suitable for my bitch,she was mated today so think the course should begin considering their recommend to provide a week before breeding,..all help on this will be greatly appreciated,thanks.

I really would not add oil to a bitches diet. They have digestive problems and oil only makes this worse. Try the red raspberry- what she doesnt need- she will pass.
( knock on wood- says a prayer) but I never lost a puppy when using this. About half way through the 63 days, give her a mid day feeding of half what you normally feed her at dinner and breakfast. When you get closer to delivery- let me know as I have a few more tips.. You have my pm address okay? Good luck!

Thanks for your help Borzoimom,..Will take you up on the offer and will be contacting you in the future as you certainly seem to know your stuff after reading other posts of yours,..Glad to know there are experienced breeders like your on the forum and will be back many time for help and hopefully give some advice(or place my input from experience),..will do a google on the red raspberry and human form will be fine if for any reason I can not purchase the doggie type,..best wishes Stephen & Michelle.

Its human form and you can get it at walmart etc in the vitamin aisle. You want the capsule type you can full apart and dump the contents into the food. .. Keep me posted..
