Owl in the Hopsvine (5 pix, 1 vid)

My Mom took the dogs out this morning to do their business before her walk. She was looking around, and something caught her eye in the hopsvine. When it moved it's head, she realized it was an owl.

Does anyone know what kind of owl this is? Or what he is doing there? I'm guessing he's resting there for the day, after a nice juicy mouse or something.

We can get so close to him and he doesn't even move - even Molly went and sat right below him. What a sweet owl.

Here's a very short video of him watching Molly. His eyes were closed, so I think he was just following her sound to act like he is still alert.

    what a cute little guy!
I looked on the Internet- best guess: it's a Whiskered Screech Owl.
The ear tufts, barring, & colors are right. I think maybe you have a juvenile there.
The last picture is of two western screech owls - you can see that their ear tufts are much larger.

Yep, it's snowing. He looked so comfy there.. I want to pick him up and carry him inside. But I gotta remember it's a wild animal.

What a sweet owl, he definately looks sleepy, but alert. I hope he's not cold.

Don't think I've ever seen one in real life. Thanks for sharing.
