Jack Russell & Mixed Breeds

Have introduced myself on another part of forum called introductions - I have two dogs one a Jack Russell called Jack (original I know!!! ) and a mixed breed terrier that we rescued called Millie.

So please any other terrier breeders/lovers out there???

He is so cute I bet he is really loveable and loves his cuddles and to play I know Jack does to keep his coat from getting dry and itchy during the winter with the heating on when you bath him try putting some baby oil on him while he is still damp and his coat will stay shiny and soft I do this with Jack and it also prevents too much hair loss as well. Try it and let me know how you get on.

Penny LAne is absolutely beautiful she is the same colour as my father-in-laws Russell and you can tell that there is definitely a Russell in there. I posted a reply to Payson's owner about keeping their coat in the winter when the heating is on if she is an indoor dog - when you bath her while her coat is damp rub some baby oil on to her and this is for all short haired dogs and rub it in well into the skin it stops them becoming dry and itchy and losing too much hair - it works try it and let me know how you get on

do you mean her coat is hard and coarse - rubbing this oil in will help that also but make sure it is well rubbed in and before doing it brush her coat to remove any loose hairs but really try it it does work - My father-in-law's Jack Russell (also called snowie) had the same problem and he does it and now her coat is starting to become soft and more full.

Thanks, i'll try this. I just bathed her and Daisy this past Saturday, so it will be a few weeks before i do again. I love how soft their coats are after a bath, that would be great if it lasted longer...

Yes it is worth a try my two dogs are not always inside but spend a good part of their evening and during the day at the weekends inside so this helps them.


they ahve their own house out the back of our house it is made of granite stone and inside they have a wooden kennel also which is well insulated and has blankets and cushions they are definitely spoiled....

Not all jack russells are smooth coated, some are rough coated and some are broken coated, like Snowy. boken coat is a mixture of smooth and rough coat - she has both

I don't consider her partly rough coat to be a problem. It's good actually, I believe the terrierman calls it weatherproof and it actually repells dirt. Snowy can roll over on sand for a minute and be completely clean again the next minute without having to be brushed, and she gets dry very quickly when she gets wet in the rain or when I give her a bath.

The only problem is the amount of hair she sheds I know what I was getting though when I wanted a Jack Russell, but I will try using baby oil next time as you suggested and see what happppens.

I understand that but over here they are considered coarse or soft coated and not broken haired but sounds lovely and easy to keep clean not like me Jack is forever picking up dirt as he is soft haired.... Millie is longhaired and her hair is coarse so she is easy to keep clean except around unspeakable areas does anyone have any tips
