Hello.
I have a good friend that has recently been interested in lovebirds. Now I just decided to do some research for myself about them. any info on lovebirds is welcome And I had a few questions too:
1.Would It Be better To Get 1 or 2 birds?
2. About how much noise do they make?(lets say if someone lived in an apartment for instance)
I know I may have a few more questions I just cant remember them,

1.Would It Be better To Get 1 or 2 birds?
It really depends on what the owner wants out of the bird. If they want the bird to bond to them, 1 bird is typically best. If two birds are housed together, they normally bond to eachother opposed to bonding to their owner.

2. About how much noise do they make?(lets say if someone lived in an apartment for instance)
Lovebirds can be rather noisy, especially when in pairs. They have very high pitched screams. As for an apartment, they might be okay. Being high-pitched, their noise can carry quite a ways when they're actually being noisy. I've never lived in an apartment, so I'm not certain how well sound carries between the different housing areas.

I would start off with one if you want it to be tame, birds in pairs usualy stay wild & rather protect each other from humans lol, Shiney my lovebird is alone & is such a good boy, he never bite's or screams very often, if you have one lovebird it will be more easy to tame them .. you should also get the wings clipped & a hand fed baby is best for sure.

Lovebirds usualy make noise when there bored or happy lol, Shiney will sometimes scream very loud in my ears & trust me it's hurts lol, but he only does that to me like 5 time's a week .. you might get a buzzing sound after that high pitch rings in your ears if the bird is close enough like on your shoulder. I would have to say lovebirds are not very noisy & there even less when alone.

Thanks Now I was still wondering on the food, and the housing for them, and I beleive reading from awhile ago that they may get sick from some kind of fumes from the kitchen Im not sure, I cant rememeber.

As for food, we feed ours a mix of seed, pellets, & fresh food. Seed mixes are most readily available, but not all are nutritionally good enough. I can't remember what we use for our Lovies, but I really prefer to feed pellets, as they tend to be more nutritionally complete in the long run. I use Zupreem with my quaker, and mix a bit of that into the Lovies' food.

Fresh foods are a must, all of our birds really enjoy it! We usually offer fresh food to the smaller birds(budgies & lovebirds) every other day or so(a bit more frequently for the larger birds). Our Lovies really enjoy carrots & apples, while my Quaker goes crazy for grapes. Each bird has a different preferance, so trying out new things each time until you figure out the favorite is best. =]
HERE is a list of foods safe for quakers to eat. It goes for all parrots, so they're safe for Lovebirds, too.

As for housing, I hear the minumum is 32"X20"X20" for a pair. I'm unsure of what it would be for a single bird, but bigger is typically better. Lovebirds are fairly active, and appreciate the extra room to explore.

About the kitchen concern, you're probably referring to the fumes that the teflon in products puts off when overheated. This causes respiratory distress with birds, typically resulting in death.

And on a side note, if you house a bird alone, you'll most likely occasionally have to help it with preening. They typically can't reach the pin feathers on their head & neck, so they appreciate it if you help out by preening their necks & heads for them. =] Plus, it calls for great bonding time!

I am having a problem with my girlfriends lovebird. She is too noisy at times and I dont think she is adapting to our new apartment. Are there any sound proof items I can buy to help this problem?

We would never get rid of the bird and we would do anything to keep her at the apartment. Thank you.

I use to have a lovebird. She was a female and she was very sweet wehn I first got her, but as she got older she got aggressive and would bite me. I carried her to the petshop and asked some questions about her and the lady that owner the petshop said that when females get older they become more aggressive sometimes because they are getting ready to nest and have babies. I ended up having to give her to the lady at the petshop. I knew her and she's good friends with my mom. She wanted her as a pet.
