Moo's got something in his eye.

We were at the beach yesterday and today, as well as the dog park today. He was rolled around a bit and running around. I think he may have some sand or something in his eye because he keeps squinting it. I tried flushing it with a bit of water, but I don't think it helped at all.

What else can I do for him or is it just something I have to let work out on it's own?

If you flush it, you should flush with Saline, not plain water--the plain water will be irritating, but the Saline won't be and you can use alot. If after flushing, he continues to be bothered by it, you should probably take him to the vet--he might have a corneal abrasion.

My thoughts also. If the cornea is scratched, that can be very painful. Tow of my cats were playing, got a bit rough, and Vita scratched Sparkle's eye. Of course this heppened late on a Saturday, requiring a trip to the Emergency Vet (along with a bank roll of cash.) Came back with 3 eye drops, one to relieve pain, one to keep it dilated and one to . . . do something else. Can't recall, this was 2 years ago. Anyway, had to go in to regular vet 10 days later to ensure it was all healed up.

Cats don't show signs of being sick, but Sparkle was obviously feeling lousy. She had the eye almost closed, and just kept laying down. Didn't paw at it or anything like that.

After a long nap (because he was pooped from his adventures today) her is up and running around like normal. He is still squinting his eye. It doesn't even look red, it's the same color as the other. However, it is teary compared to the other.

Hopefully it's nothing serious. Poor wittle boy.

Hello,
It does sound like a scratched cornea. I worked for an eye Dr for three years and even with the sand out it is very painful if scratched. It does need to be looked at by a vet. Infection can set in very quickly. Keep a close eye on the eye and take him to the vet as soon as you can. Sometimes it is hard to see something like sand unless he is under a special light called a slit lamp which the vet should have. Good luck and keep us posted.

Maybe he just scratched the lense. Obviously, if it doesnt clear up by tomorrow, maybe a run by the vet is in order. His tears are to keep it lubricated as you know, and a canine eye saline wash might help.

He's had it opened most of the day and is using it. It's cloudy and he's still squinting.

I've asked my dad to make an appointment tomorrow, so hopefully he will.

Poor Moo. Star scratched her lens a little bit a few months back while I was babysitting her and it was no fun. Some anti-inflammatory drops had her back to normal in a few days.

uggghhhh...scratched eyes are the worst! Never had a dog with one, but my son had one this spring, and had to wear an eye patch for a few days, he thought he looked cool!!

but it sure wasnt cool, trying to get those darned eye drops in a 6yr old!!!

Hello again,
If Moo's eye is cloudy and he is still having problems please make sure he get into the vet's tomorrow. An infection can set it so quickly and cause permanet damage to the eye. It is just one of those things that need to be seen by a DR. ASAP. Good luck.
