    Tabitha lost a tooth

Is this something for me to be concerned about? She is 18, and is in great health. I check her teeth regularly for tartar and to make sure they are all there. Well, this morning, I found a tooth (from her upper right, the long one... don't know the name of it, sorry) on the bedroom floor. No blood, just seems to have broken off. When I checked her mouth, I find no swelling, and I can't feel anything where the tooth was. She eats mainly soft food. Please offer any advice that you have! She is acting normally. Thanks. Donna

I would call the vet because a broken tooth can be painful. When my dog Disney broke one of her teeth the vet went in and removed the roots because they said it would be painful and could lead to infection if they left it. Since your cat is 18 she may not be a candidate to sedate to remove the roots. They may just want to put her on antibiotics to be safe.

Thanks Jazzcat! I have called the vet, but they are at lunch, so I will try again this afternoon. Hope she is okay. I am at work, and I am worried that she is in pain and I am not there.

I talked to the Vet Tech, who told me to keep a close eye on her for excessive swelling in the gum area as well on her mouth. She also said to keep an eye out for less eating and drinking, which of course I will. She said that if anything changes, to call and they would see her right away.

Jazzcat.... you were right on the money, as she said that they would begin treating with antibiotics if necessary!

    Thanks for your response!

Just an update..... so far so good. I check Tabitha at least 2X a day, looking for seeping and/or swelling, and so far, everything seems normal. She is eating, peeing and pooing as usual! Please pray that this continues for my little 18 year old baby.

Glad to hear she is doing well. I'll keep her in my prayers that it won't affect her and she will continue to be a happy kitty.
