    Triskit Got Shot!!!

Triskit got shot yesterday. I guess somebody thought she was a deer because she is the same color as one. They shot her in that piece of skin that is connected to the belly and the leg. (You do know what I'm talking about right?) There is a big hole there and you can see through it. The bullet grazed her belly a little bit and there is a scratch there. We bandaged her and wrapped her up. She lost a lot of blood but today she is doing really well and she is getting up and walking (though rather slowly). I'm glad that she didn't get shot in a more serious place. We are getting her a bright orange collar today.

Yikes! That's so scary! Poor Triskit, give her a kiss for me. Hope all the dogs have "hunter orange" collar, tie-out or something that says "Do Not Shoot Me!"

My tricolor wears a orange vest during bear season. By law, they are supposed to have a clear shot, and yes I prosecuted last year when someone took a shot at Femka who was also wearing her orange vest. ( He lost his hunting license for 2 years..).
YOu did get your dog to the vet right? If you did- increase her protein for iron. Tipoli fish or broccoli is a good one. I also feed beef and yes- venison but its awfully rich as there is almost nooooooooooo fat..

Yes. We have to feed her liver and beef. We are also giving her Geritol which increases her iron. I never knew that broccoli is good for that though.

We don't even know who did it. I know it was a hunter though because dad said the bullet came from a hunting gun (don't know what it was called) She's smallish (probably about the size of a yearling) and right now those are illegal to shoot. If I knew who did it I would make sure they wouldn't be able to hunt for a while

You recently had a dog hit by a bus and now this.....honestly you really need to keep your dogs in your yard not running loose. This makes me very sad.

    I hope Trisket recovers.

Sumbirdy - you mentioned in another post that your family was building a better fence.

I hope it is done before one of your dogs dies in an accident. You have had two close calls already...there is a death waiting to happen there.

The dog that was hit by a bus *did* die. Less than a year old too, rest in peace, Checkers. I hope a good fence is built soon.

The poor baby! I hope she'll be okay and none of the other dogs you have get shot too during the hunting season. Aren't there any type of confinement laws regarding dogs in your area?

In my county, if a dog is running on someones property during hunting season, that person can legelly shot the dog. Here it is bow season, small game and several bird seasons. I would keep all dogs in a fenced in area, a kennal, tie out, on a leash or in the house. When walking them, keep them on a leash with an orange vest on. A few weeks ago a dog got shot when it was running and everyone felt so bad for the owner, but why was the dog out running was my first question? Dog owners new to be responsibly for their dog's safety!

In my area it is permissable to shoot dogs that are running loose and posing a threat to livestock or wild game animals. Even chasing them can be considered a "threat". I live not too far from an Indian reservation.

Well lessons learned from all the comments above, I hope Trisket has a healthy recovery.
