    Avon the Tortoise

Helmet (our desert tortoise) is finally large enough to be totally outdoors. Since this transition Avon has taken over Helmet's indoor living quarters.

This pictures blurry (it was taken with my camera phone) but wanted to give you an idea of her inside Helmet's hibernation house.

    And Helmet

As you can seen in the first picture she broke through the screen to get in there. The amazing thing is Helmet's been mostly inside for 8 years now and this is the first time the screen top has been ripped away. Good timing!!
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a full management plan in which stray and feral cats already living outdoors in cities, towns, and rural areas are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, and sterilized by veterinarians. Kittens and tame cats are adopted into good homes. Healthy adult cats too wild to be adopted are returned to their familiar habitat under the lifelong care of volunteers

LOL I guess Avon is the new furry breed. Now at least I get to see Helmet because he wouldn't come out when I was there in August. What do the cats think of him?

The cats are apprehensive when Helmet is out and walking around. They're more curious than anything.

She was the size of a quarter when I got her, so it took this long to reach a size where she couldn't get out of the yard. She's had many supervised visit to the outdoors, but now she lives there. She's registered etc. since desert tortoises are now considered endangered species.

I have heard of the tortoise and the hare, but I have never heard of the tortoise and the Cats.
Thats a new one on me.
I can see that Avon did not let any grass grow under her paws, she filled that vacany right away.
    Thats one enterprising Cat.
