    Crate question

Our rescue beagle jsut started going back into his crate today on his own. We left it open for him. We have had him for 4 days, his temperment is great, we walk him 3-4times a day and play in the house.

Is going back to his crate normal or is he stressed? He rolls over for belly rubs an d sits on us on the couch for headpats otherwise.

Every dog is different. Watch his body language. If he seems happy and content in there, then YIPPIE! You have a happy dog who likes his crate. If his body language shows he's tense, nervous, etc, and he's hiding in the crate, then figure out whats making him that way.

Usually, if your dog sees the crate as a good thing, it becomes their own sort of "bedroom". Their place of privacy.

Catnapper pretty much explained your question.

"Did you ever notice when you blow in a dog's face he gets mad at you?
But when you take him in a car he sticks his head out the window." -- Steve Bluestone

Aren't you fortunate! It seems your dog is happy to have his own "room", but likes to hang out with you too.

I have to agree with Catnapper.

Both of my Labs will go into their own crate numerous times throughout the day to nap or just rest. In the evening they will also put themselves to bed at around 9:00 PM or thereabouts. All I have to do is remove their collars, give them their good-night snack and shut the door.
If your dog is going in on his own during the day it's, most likely, because he feels comfortable and safe there. Does he appear to be relaxed while in the crate? You should be able to tell.
