I don't believe so.. I tend to research care for various animals in my spare time, so I know basic care of alot of animals I've not owned (such as gerbils, rabbits, snakes, certain frogs, etc. etc).
So no, I have never bought a pet without knowing basic care.

My first pigeon Todum was a total surprise I fed it bread at first

Then I started to research and then moved to corn and seeds this was like 4 or 5 years ago when I started to learn about birds not just catch them lol.

My sugar glyder I did no research I just saw it told my mom I would love to have one but the pet store people gave me all the info I needed and I did go to the library a few times.

We did when marissa was younger. I got a guinea pig. But reasearched after I got him. He died suddenly and I cried my eyes out.

My cousin spontaneously gave me a baby guinea pig one day. I researched a ton that first week he was here though.

I've always researched prospective pets. My mum and dad wouldn't consider getting me a pet until I knew something about that pet, so I spent my pocketmoney on books about them. It's always stuck from then on.

Yes, Wyatt. I got a call from my mom one evening telling me that a guy she knows was taking his PD to the pound. The pound cannot adopt out PDs and Wyatt would have been PTS right away. I went to the guys house the minute my mom told me about him and I got Wyatt. Wyatt had been living in a cage that he could barely move in and he was eating crappy walmart guinea pig food. I called Justin as I was driving home with Wyatt to tell him that we had a new pet and I needed him to get a cage ready for him. Justin simply said "ok, which cage". After I got him home I did research.

I didn't know much about the snakes, tortoises, or iguana before we got them either. They too were rescues. Justin did know a great deal about each of them before we got them though. Justin has been reading about snakes practically since he has been old enough to read.

I've never adopted one from a shelter without research.
    But I've adopted strays, without.
Even when you do research, you can still sometimes find things out about your particular animal, afterwards. For example, if it is a mutt, you might discover a breed they have in them, that might have some health or behavioral issues you didn't know about. So you have to be willing to bend, but then nothing about life/animals is cut and dry. Animals have taught me so much!!

yes, when I was 5 years old I got Tigger without knowing what species she was even! But my mom had cared for many different reptiles before so she knew to feed her/him crickets.

If you are counting fish, yes.

Other than that I did not research Greys/whippets. I had no idea I would ever get one. I researched for a beagle ( before pheobe died ), english springer spaniel, bernese, border collie and about a million other breeds that I would have liked to have. I did thousands of reaserch of dogs, though. Just not greys in particular. She just sort of found me one day. ( best day of my life. )

Of course, now I would never have any breed other than a grey, so in the futur, I will have reaserched the breed.
