    Cat flap

Want to fit one in our conservatory so Brody can still come and go as she pleases in the winter when the windows are shut. Trouble is, its either double glazed or brick - anyone have any suggestions how to get round this?

You can get catflaps specifically for fitting into glass, but I understand it is expensive to have them fitted. More of a specialist job, I imagine, than sawing a whole in your door.

My mum got round it by having a PVC panel fitted into the bottom half of her back door which had been two glass panels, one at the top and one at the bottom. I don't know whether that would work in a conservatory. Depends on whether you have a suitable panel that could be replaced, I suppose.

I was thinking of putting one in the front door so the Found Cats can go in and off the Porch in the cooler weather, and I dont have to leave the door open.
I will have to talk to my contractor about that.

I fit one in a window that slid open and had a screen. Removed the screen of course - fit in the cat door - secured it all round. It was a small window, so it was relatively easy.

So you have windows that might work?

What kind of windows do you have?

I installed a cat flap in a double-hung window by closing the window onto the top of the cat flap, screwing the cat flap into the bottom of the window frame and then adding a piece of Plexiglas to the remaining open window area. I attached the Plexiglas with small screws and caulked all around everything. That would work with a sliding window too. Just put the Plexiglas above the cat flap.

It's been in for about 3 years and still holding up well. (Of course, I had to take out the screen.)

    This is what I use!

This is my second door/window cat flap thingie. I like this one because it keeps the cold air out in the winter. I use this in a window leading to a porch. The cats use it summer and winter. I leave it in during the summer because the bunnies might come in the window, if left completely open in the summer....since the window is inside their pen. The cats love to visit with the bunnies all year long....I am not sure the bunnies feel the same way!

Anyway, I love this window insert.

    Hope this helps.
