Spayed dog with blood droplets in her "accidents"

Hi, I'm pet sitting for a friend this weekend, and last night his 8-yr old spayed dog had an "accident" in the house. I thought maybe the thunderstorm frightened her, cleaned up the mess, and went on with the evening. However, since this morning, she has had 2 more accidents, with a few droplets of blood mingled in. The neighbor is a vet and so I knocked on his door asking about this, but he said that spayed dogs may sometimes bleed like they're having their period. (I'm thinking that maybe the neighbor just didn't want to work on a Sunday) I can't find anything online that confirms this, but rather, everything I've seen online says that it may be an UTI or something else. Does anyone have any ideas? Should I take her to the emergency vet or wait for my friend to return (late tonight) and have him take her to the vet during the day? She's kind of lethargic and hasn't eaten very much (but has been drinking water).

Also, do you know what could have caused the UTI (if that's what it is)?

Thanks, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Has she been peeing or trying to pee a lot? Lots of things can cause UTI, in dogs, or even in people. Especially as she's lethargic, I'd take her to the vet tomorrow. Was the dog just recently spayed? I've never experienced a long-spayed dog bleeding.

Thanks for the reply. She has been trying to pee a lot today -- sometimes it's urine, other times some bloody discharge or nothing at all. I've been taking her out at least every couple of hours (normally she only goes out 3 times a day) and very soon after she drinks and/or eats. I think she was spayed when she was a puppy (she's 8 now).

Sounds like a UTI, and she needs to get to the Vet tomorrow morning.

I agree, it sounds like a UTI or it might of even developed into something more serious like a ballder or kidney infection or she may have stones. In any event she needs to be seen by a vet asap.
Good luck. Please keep us informed.
