    Prudence, 3/15/2001-6/24/2006

Today I put my cat, Prudence to sleep. She was five years old and three months. I adopted her June 1, 2001 when she was 10 weeks old knowing she had feline leukemia. They told me her life expectancy was 2 years. I am glad she made it past five looking so healthy the whole time. But two days ago, she looked liked she was having trouble breathing and I didn't know if it was the heat because we have no air conditioning. I brought her to the vet thinking maybe she just needs antibiotic, but her cancer had spread. I miss her. She was a great cat. All cats are great. She had a ton of energy and her nickname was the slasher because that's how she played. I hope there is an afterlife where we meet all our pets again.
She was a beautiful calico and I wish I had more time with her.

Audrey I am so sorry for your loss! and yes there is an afterlife where you will meet her! Whenever a furbaby goes to the rainbow bridge it's a hard thing. Take time to celebrate her life! And pat your self on the back for being a great cat Mom! big hugs to you and I will light a candle in her honor.

Audrey...how sad - but how incredible that your love and care more than doubled her expected lifetime.

She didn't have to suffer at all...

Bless you and I wish you peace, though I know how much it hurts and how...

    hugs

She had FIVE wonderful years being loved when most would have turned their back on her because of her illness. YOU gave her those years. We know your grief here, we have all been where you are so we cry with you. ((((HUGS)))

There is; it's called the Rainbow Bridge. I'm so sorry for your loss. She was with you far too short, but you both will be reunited.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

    Thank you

Thank you, everyone. Today two small things happened. My husband and I were in different rooms and I heard a cat cry just once the way Prudence cried when I put her in the box to go to the vet yesterday. She never really cried at all most of her life, but in the box she kept protesting and sounded like a kitten. I heard the cry but thought that can't be since we put her to sleep yesterday. Later I mentioned that I was hearing sounds as if she were still here and my husband mentioned that he heard one cat cry like the way Prudence sounded yesterday. So we heard the same cry. We live in an apartment building but Prudence was the only cat we ever saw or heard in the building.
The other thing was that I walked into a card store today. I am researching how to sell my art for commercial use like cards, mugs, etc. And I felt something give me a big nudge on the leg. It was a beautiful tabby cat and he wanted to be petted. There were other people in the store but he bumped me and stayed as if he had a message. I hope.

O, yes, that tabby had a message for you:Your dear Prudence will always be with you and loves you!!! You adopted her many years ago, knowing her time with you was limited, and that was a wonderful thing to do!!! Sleep softly, sweet Prudence...

I have had the same experiences this weekend, after putting our cat Chelsey down on Saturday. Hearing things like her purring and meowing, even though she is resting in heaven in peace and without pain, somehow, she is telling me she is ok.

I am sorry to hear about your cat, I will be praying for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss, she sounded like a great cat. How kind of you to go and adopt her even though you were told she would probably only make for 2 years. I for one don't know if I could do that, the thought of losing a pet in such a little amount of time would sadden me, but you reached into the kindness of your heart and did just that. And as if that wasn't enough, you obviously provided her with the best life anyone could as she lived well past her 'expected days.' So in other words, think about the fun times you shared with her as well as all of the good memories, and by doing that it will get you through to the next day. Bless you.

Also, here is an animation I found when my dog died 2 years ago. It brings tears to my eyes everytime I watch it.

Your dear Prudence lived longer than expected because of your love and care for her. My heart goes out to you and your hubby.

Yes, you will hear her cries for the next few days, just like I heard my Katie girls. I believe that it is them letting us know that they are still with us in spirit and are doing okay.

Rest in Peace pretty Prudence and enjoy your time on RB.
