when to ween off puppy food

    Hi everybody!
I just brought home a 6 mth old lab from the shelter.
Should I still be feeding her puppy kibble?

It is between you and your vet. Typically, some prefer to continue feeding puppy formulas until a year old, some wean them off at 9 months, some wait until they are a year and a half. Whatever you and your vet feel between the two of you is best for your dog!

Personally, I stopped feeding puppy food to my pups at the same time, when Charlie was a little over year and Jamie was around nine or ten months.

    Thanks guys.
I think I'm gonna go get her some puppy kibble.
I think I heard her choke a bit on the adult kind.
She might not be quite ready for it yet.

We switched Molly off of puppy food and onto adult once she was spayed at approx. 6 1/2 months. The only difference between adult and puppy food is that puppy food has more protein and calories.

Well choking wouldn't have anything to do with puppy versus adult formulas, it may have to do with how BIG the kibble pieces are. If the regular size is too big, try the small bites (if it is available). Otherwise, you can try soaking the food in some warm water for a few minutes to soften it before feeding.

If I recall I weaned my pups off of puppy food around 9 months.
They do make a large breed puppy food you might want
    to consider.

I prefer to not feed puppy food at all... in fact my next pup will be raised on an all life stages food like Innova.

Ditto. I don't have much faith in kibble at all anymore. If I had to, I'd feed an all-lifestages food like Innova or Canidae, etc.

I fed Molli puppy food until she was a year old and will do the same with Sam.

Personally any dog that is of medium size or larger I would ween them off at about 4-6 months of age. Smaller breeds I would feed puppy kibble until they are about 9-12 months of age. The all life stages formulas are great for any age.
But it also depends on the formula too, some of the better brands offer a large breed puppy, in that case it would be alright to feed it for an additional couple of months.

I was getting ready to post something about this .
Lily is on Pro Plan Small Breed Puppy. I know alot of people don't like it, but she does really well on it. They have a Pro Plan Small Breed Adult, that we will be switching to, but I wasn't sure when. She'll be 6months old on April 13, and we have to buy her a new jug of food soon...so...I was thinking about going ahead and getting the adult?
    What do you guys think?

Bri, personally I'd keep her on puppy food until she's about 9-12 months of age.

    Hi.
I thought I'd respond to this old thread. Thanks for all your responses.
I'm mostly feeding Daisy raw, now, and have been for about 6 weeks. Chicken, veggies, some steak & roast beef, beef kidney & liver. She's responding well.
But I keep a quality puppy kibble around,
    just in case.
