    Eating from the litter box.

Can anyone help my friend. She has an adult cat and just recently adopted 2 dogs. The youngest dog has been eating the turds from the cat that are in the litter box and just recently the older dog has started to do the same. Has anyone ever heard of this and what can she do about it? Any ideas??????

Pork Chop used to eat our cat's "tootsie rolls." He just outgrew it.

Sorry - that was no help!

My dog used to eat the cat poops that were outside, and I heard if you put tobasco sause or vinegare on the poops the dogs don't like the taste and won't eat it. I'm not sure if your cat would use the litter box if theres tobasco sause or vinegare on it though. Sorry I can't think of anything else, what we just did for my dog is punished her for it and put the cat's litter box inside the laundry room, chained the door with a chain that we could take of to go in and out of the room, and had it so that when the chain was on there was enogh room for the cat to go through but not the dog.
    Hope this helps you out.

When we lived on a small farm our dog would eat the cow patties. I think dogs eats **turds,,, i really don't know what word to use** because it is full of vitamins and protiens that they need, that is what I have heard. But it is common for dogs to eat that stuff. If it bothers you real bad I would try putting the litter box in a higher place, one where the cats can jump up to and one the dog can not reach. Just a suggestion.

I don't know if you can stop dogs from doing this. What I did was put the litter boxes in a spare room and gated the door to that room. One night when walking up the steps to go to bed, I noticed the gate was down. The dogs had already gone upstairs before me. I immediately thought, I know where they are. I slowly walked into the room and snuck over to where the litter boxes were. There were my two dogs, side by side, one head in each box. I yelled, get out of there. They both turned their heads to look at me and headbutted each other. It was actually kind of funny.

lmao That is pretty good.. Presley doesn't touch the litter boxes as they are downstairs in the basement and she wont go down there because the stairs are scary for her. Also she is always told no and stay when we go down.
My old dog loved the cat box. It was so gross. I don't know what you can do about it. Maybe put them in a place the dogs cat get to? Also try and keep them cleaned everyday.. Less interest for the dogs if there is no treats?! in there for them

I had two dogs who loved to eat my cat's poop. They had litter strewn all over the house. My boyfriend was at his wit's end. I went on the internet and found Purr-fect Privy, a litter containment system. http://www.pfprivy.com
It was a little expensive but I am here to tell you IT WORKS. My cat loved having her own private time back again. The dogs didn't even try anymore because they knew it was useless. Let me know if you have any questions. I'll be glad to answer them for you.

I had the same problem with both my dogs. Shaianne used to get in it and I would just yell at her and she would leave it alone.
Keegan as a puppy monster was another story! She got in it one night and got stuck!!!
So My dad built me a huge walk in closet and I requested a kitty hole for Kylie and problem solved. At first Keegan would try to put her head in it but it works great.

Hello! I post regularly on the cat boards, but my parents had this problem too. We had to use a door stopper so the dogs couldn't get into the cat room. Also, someimes buying a more vitamin rich food (with the advice from a vet) works. When our dogs were eating their own poops the vet said it was because they weren't getting the vitamins the food was supposed to be giving; instead they were pooping them out! When we changed their food the poop eating desire went away.

One time we forgot to use the door stopper and Garth (our sheltie; he came with the name so we don't know how he got it) got into the cat room. The cats went up there to do their thing and there he was! Instead of letting him flee, which he desperatley wanted to do, they parked themselves outside the door and wouldn't let him out!! My mom said she has no idea how long they held him hostage in there!!! LOL

That's pretty bad, I guess that she should consult her vet. Maybe there is a spray or something that she could buy commercially that would keep the dog away but yet not bother the cat. I have never heard of that before. Dog's do the craziest things, they are so much like humans. Ha!
