    potty issues

ok, so I don't know if it's Charlie peeing in the bedroom or if it's my cat. How can I tell? He potties outside. He normally doesn't have access to this room, but it was open and I went in there and there was a puddle.

When he has to pee, and he has an accident, he does it in the living room, same room as the back door.

So if it is him, it's territorial. Or if it's my cat it's same thing. They are both fixed. Tho Charlie got fixed in march I think I can't remember date.

I haven't got a crate yet, but at night we gate him up in our room and he does fine. When we're gone I lock him in the master bathroom and he does fine.

BUT if I leave him out while we're gone, even if he just went potty, and we come back to a puddle in the living room. Not bedroom.

He is good while he's in our sight.

How can I tell if it's cat or dog pee? I've got him on his leash with me now. Like that nilf program

Could him peeing in living room while we're gone be caused from anxiety from us being gone? We've only had him for a month.

Could be anxiety? I know my Rio was he was young would pee on my suitcase if we took it out. He learned that the suitcase meant I was leaving. Even though my dogs are older I leave a wee wee pad down always just in case they have to go. Is Charlie real young- speration is hard for some dogs. I would try leaving a pad down and alot of people do use the crate. Good luck and give Charlie and you kitty hugs.

He's 4. But we've only had him a month. I don't know if he would use a wee pad. Do they have some sort of smell built into it to attract them?

Well, I've noticed that cat urine has a much stronger odor than dog, usually (I've had to clean up both sorts of accidents ). Is your cat litterbox trained, or do you let him out to do his 'business'? My cats will not usually tell me that it's time to go out, and only one of my dogs will, so I know if there's been an accident, it's either one of the cats or my other dog, but the smell is the main way for me to tell.

ALL urine glows under black light.

To deodorize after cleaning up "accidents", use either Nature's Miracle or Outright Stain & Odor Removers. They eliminate even cat spray odors and don't encourage re-use of the spot. Just be sure to use enough to get through to the bottom of the stain.

Cats don't generally leave puddles on the floor. They will use a carpet where they can dig if they have issues with the litter box or a urinary tract infection. I suspect it's your dog. Until you can be sure he won't leave you surprises, I'd suggest a crate or at least a small room that's easy to clean.

You seem to be on the right track. Give him a few weeks to get it down pat.

I'm sure you're right; however, my cats have no option if they have to go inside, since I have no carpet in my home. Due to severe dust/mold allergies, my husband and I can only stand to live on wood/tile/linoleum flooring. I have had to clean up occasional puddles, which are usually at the door that they come in/go out through...which meant we were not paying enough attention to them when they needed to go, of course , so it's really our fault.
