    One handed K9Karen....

    Hey, guys...
This will take me forever, as John is asleep, but I thought you'd like an update.
Met with Animal Control officer on Sat. morn. He took my statement as much as I could remember-which was about 3 minutes from start to end as I went into shock. He took more pics of additional finger, calf, ear and head injuries. He's going to make an appointment to interview my brother next week. as he'll be in court most of this week on other cases. He said my injuries were the worse he's seen in ages. I'm lucky to be alive.
The neighbor, according to neighbors and the hospital was looking for me. HE had been at the hospital that day but spelt my name wrong so they sent him away. I saw him outside on Sat afternoon and he quickly asked how my hand was and I told him awful..blah blah.. and suggested we don't speak. I don't want to get talkative or say something I'll regret as I have an appt. with a lawyer on Monday. He was 'fixing' his fence-adding layers of wood at the bottom. I saw 1 dog with him. Today I saw 2, neither with a required muzzle or leash.
Everyone I know has been awesome. New neighbors across the street offered help, as did some I rarely see and of course the puppy's owners have been either calling or over everyday. Ofcourse all of you have been so sweet and kind.
Have Dr appt on Friday. I know i need one more surgery, but maybe as many as 3-4. The sling turns my fingers black so I have to rest mt entire arm on 2-3 pillowsto keep my arn vertical and constantly wiggle, stretch, bend my fingers. They are less swollen but still discolored and wrinkly. John and I have had dinner out every night since, thanks to loving friends. Tomorrow i will go to a Passover dinner and Sunday, to an Easter dinner, so I'll be spiritually covered! My brother has been a gem. His girlfriend of 6 yrs broke up with him2 weeks ago, and our relationship improved dramatically since and evenmore now. John is my savior-I thinks he loves caring for me anyway and hates my independent ways! I feel like I'm a changed person, emotionally, mentally, spiritually.
Big secret revealed... i stopped smoking as of 4P April 5. I love my hand and fingers better than the Marlboro Man. I'm using an inhaler. My fab dentist gives me all the freebies I want now .Maybe this was also an omen.
Sorry to yak away. I was missing you all. I have so many threads to catch up on, sorry-spend a lot of time sleeping.
Puppy, Boots is fine except for a deep puncture wound on his little butt. My darling Klo is loving and attentive. I'm so relieved she wasn't hurt.
    I love you all.....Karen

Oh my gosh Karen, I didn't even see anything about this. Is there a thread about exactly what happened? I'm so sorry to hear about all of it, it sounds very painful. I hope you get feeling better soon!!

Karen, I just saw this post and wanted to respond right away.

What an amazing spirit you have - even through all of this. The most important thing is that you came out of this alive - as did the poor puppy.
Over and over again, I will say, bless your heart for protecting that puppy at all costs - your HAND.

In some ways this reminds me of the incident that happened on our block several years ago when a neighbor's dog attacked another dog that was being walked (on a leash) by its owner. She is a writer and in trying to protect her older golden - was attacked herself. Her wrist was broken.

The owners of the dog came over with a box of apples and a dozen roses and said they were so sorry. And they truly felt that this would be enough.

The woman that was injured and her husband did not want money - even the medical bills paid for - they wanted something done about the dog because it was the sixth attack - and the owners did nothing. They finally had to go to court over it because the dog was always loose - running free.

Fixing that spot in the fence is not enough - if they could dig out there - they will only find another spot - another victim.

I wish you the very best in all of this - and I am just so sorry that it had to happen at all - you really have had your plate full recently.

Karen, I am so glad you and the puppy survived all this. It sounds horrible what you have to go through.

Filou and Tigris send healing purrs (you know that they say cat purr frequencies are good for the growth of bones )

Karen you type better with one hand than I usually do with two! I didn't realize you had quit smoking as a result of all of this. You may have mentioned it before but somehow it didn't *sink in.* Life is strange isn't it? Who would have thought that something like this could have a *little bit of positive* thrown into the mix. My fingers are crossed that you can stay away from those things.

I can imagine the fear you have every time you let Klo out to go potty. I hope that there is a better solution to this mess than just a quickie fence repair.
