Have you done flyball before?? If not I would first take classes, Their are alot of reasons why you would want to go to a trainer first. Are you wanting to do flyball for fun? What is the purpose?

yes. but weren't you saying you had not much money to take buddy to classes. But you have enough money to build a flyball box? Wood is really expenisve and to build a flyball box will take alot of time. I'm not trying to be rude but explaning it.

My parents would be paying for the flyball box, I would have to pay for the obedience classes though since he is my dog. You weren't being rude, by the way.

Flyball sure looks like fun. I'm waiting for one of the training facilities near me to start offering classes. They are working on it now and I can't wait. I'm sure yous will have a lot of fun.
You would want to take him to some sort of flyball class even if you are doing it just for fun though. The dog needs to be in certain positions when they hit the box to retrieve the ball in order to prevent injuries to their joints & the such.

No, I have not done flyball. I was interested in it, but they compete in teams and I cannot find any other dog-people interested in my area. You can build most of that from scrap lumber- hardware stores will give you scraps free or cheap jsut to get it out of their way. Also, contact a contractor or someone you know with a barn full of junk- it's not hard to find wood for free. The hardware and the mechanisms you would have to buy. If your dog can already catch in the air, flyball would be easy for them to learn.

Oh- you might like this, too- I am making some, but wider and higher- cause these are for small dogs- I have just a few more parts to get to finish- and need to take them over to my dad's to borrow some tools. LOL

I know that our vet suggested we wait until Natalie was over a year old to train her to jump hurdles, and Hogan cannot start weight-pull until he is past one- so that would be my one bit of advice- just be sure your dog is not still growing.

Edited to add- Hogan also has to have his OFAs first- to be sure there are no hip or joint problems. Nattie is a mixed breed, so there is no standard for OFAs, but we did have her checked by a vet.
