Private Message Receipts

How do you turn them off, or get rid of them, so that doesn't show up for people anymore? I have realized that it does not appear when I have recieved some pm's, but others have it...

When you create a new private message to someone, when you hit "send" it asks whether you want a receipt. If you hit "cancel" at that point, your private message to the person will go through fine, but won't ask them to confirm receipt.
