Attention getting device
I've never owned a weineriemer but know a few that do. It seems to me the dog is trying to get "attention" or be part of the "show". I bet the dog "thinks" it is human and may be trying to imitate what his going on. Dogs can act ALOT like children.
I may suggest trying some behavior modifications. For example, give the dog a toy when company comes over. This should distract the dog for a bit. Maybe have the dog to take the toy or chew treat and lie at your feet. That way the dog feels "included" but gently distracted.
I don't think the dog will take well to being locked up or locked out of ANY conversations. Instead, try to work in a "special place" in your presence but still out of the way. Maybe move the dog bed into the room your in and teach him/her to lie there with a toy.
My dogs get VERY excited when a new person comes into the house. However, about a few minutes later the newness has worn off and they lay down nearby. Maybe have your guest pet the dog initially and then put the dog in it's place. They like order and you are "Alpha dog".
