Help using a Mac

I am house sitting and there is a Mac here. Ive never used one before. A friend helped me get on the internet... lol But if anyone has any tips to share that would make my Mac experience smoother Id appreciate it.

Also if anyone could tell me why the question mark turns into a É when I type it, and the forward slash a é and also the quotation marks È and the apostraphe a è Id relly appreciate that too....

The reason why certain characters are turning to question marks or odd characters to me has something to do with character encoding on the browser.

Is there Safari on it? Use that instead of internet explorer because it blocks annoying ads. Other than that I can't really think of anything but that if you want to save a picture or something, just drag it to the desktop.
