Here is spikes xmas present..
Lucky Spike!I like that cage.Mine doesn't have as much room to the wide as it does tall but It is alwas hard for me to find a cage that Emmy likes and is easy to clean.Do you have a wood toy in there for her to chew?(they can be bought for like 5 dollars)or a cuttlebone?(99 cents)
yeah she has her cuddle bone, at the time i took the pic we didnt have it in there. my boyfriend( jason) had a tough time getting her in there. she got out of his hands, but the last time he picked her up she didnt bite, she just chirped, so maybe she is getting used to us.
Oh am so happy she is starting to trust you and your boyfriend. She was proable scared of the new cage my bird emmy did that with her new cage too.Emmy alwas takes a few days to get used to new things.I think most cockatiels do.![]()
WHOO HOO!!!!! I'm SO glad to hear she's doing so much better!!! Trust me; that new cage will DEFINITELY speed things up! I'm so happy for you guys!HUUUUUGE KUDOS!!!!!
What a nice cage. I bet Spike is happy in his new digs!
Is that the cage that is like $30ish from Walmart? I was looking at it (for when I get a bird) but I wasn't sure how sturdy it is.
Soar high & free my sweet fur angels. I love you Nanook & Raustyk... forever & ever.
yeah i got it from walmart, it was like 50$. well my parents got it for us for xmas.
when jasons parents went to petco they got a cocktiel care sheet, and im doing everything on there but it said that the birds are supposed to come out of the cage everyday, but we cant with spike yet. so is it bad for her to be in the cage all the time? I just hope soon we can hold her!
Not to sound sick or anything, but today i noticed that spike had some feces that look like diahrrea. lighter than usual. is it something she ate? i havent been feeding her anything diffrent.
another question...can you tell by their size how old they are?
bump
Just wondering why he can't come out of his cage yet? If it is because of a medical condition or something of the like I'm sure he'll be fine. He will be ok with only cage time for a little while, but I wouldn't make a habit of it at all. I'd start working on brining him out soon though.
How long did her feces look abnormal? If it was only once I wouldn't worry about it but if they are constantly like that I would start to worry, especially seeing as nothing has changed.
You haven't given her a new treat or kind of water or anything have you?
Sorry I can't be of any help with the age.
Soar high & free my sweet fur angels. I love you Nanook & Raustyk... forever & ever.
Is it a nice cage though? Sturdy & well made?
Soar high & free my sweet fur angels. I love you Nanook & Raustyk... forever & ever.
yeah its sturdy, i like it.
we cant take her out because she wont let us, we always try but she bites at us, dont know how long its going to take![]()
Let her stay in the cage for as long as she wants. The last thing you should do is to force her out the cage. With patient love and attention, Spike will enter and exit the cage with little prompting on your part![]()
Have you bought Guide to a Well-Behaved Parrot by Mattie Sue Athan yet? If not, I highly recommend it. It has a list of what to do to encourage the bird to come out and feel comfortable around you.
After the bird is weaning, there is no real, solid way to prove a bird's age through its size and weight. Did the pet store tell you when the bird had finished weaning or when it arrived at the store from the breeders? There's a certain age when breeders sell their cockatiels to the store and I think it's around 4 weeks or something. Uhhh, don't trust me on that because I haven't read up on weaning cockatiels in quite a long time.
As long as she looks perky and the feces is not sticking to her vent area (her butt feathers, basically), I wouldn't worry about the occassional diarrhea. Did you give her a lot of leafy vegetables or some watery fruits? The aforementioned can easily give new birds the Big D. If it doesn't continue, I wouldn't worry. Good Luck!
