    cracked and peeling pads

Hi everyone! I have had cats my whole life, and I have never had one whos pads crack and peel. My cat Tony loves to get his back paws sratched, and thats when I noticed that they are peeling. Is this normal? Its been going on for a while? Does he need lotion of some kind?

I've never heard of that. Maybe you should ask your vet? Good luck!

My hairless cat, MooShoo gets dry patches of skin during the winter. I use "Udder Cream" which is what farmers use on their cow's udders. You can also use "Bag Balm" which is also sold at pet stores for dry skin. It's harmless if they lick it off.

If he goes outside, the dry pads could be from sand and salt that is put down on the roads.

Nakita had this problem and it resulted from the litter we were using. First we tried the crystal type litter and her paw pads really dried up. Then we tried Worlds Best Litter and she had the same reaction.

We're now using Sweat Scoop and her pads have healed right up.

Bag Balm is a good choice. It's also good for people's hands. I need to try to find some!
