To test or not to test...

    that is the question.

Killi has to go in for his yearly shots. Do you think I should have a liver panel done to see how his liver disease is progressing?

If the values come back high, there is nothing more that we can do for him anyway. It will only tell me that he is sicker than he looks. (They say that two years is about the average of living with liver disease. He has had it for a year now. I believe in little miracles and that he will be with me longer than that. It is possible!) If they are high, I will be depressed and upset, which he will be able to read from me.
Right now I'm in a blissful state believing that his liver is not deteriorating and he is fine. That is how he is acting. If the liver values come back low, than I can happily have proof of my beliefs.

If he were your furbaby, what would you do??
    Thanks for the imput!

    Sue,

I voted no. If it were Buddy, I honestly would not do it !!!

If he acts normal & is not in pain or showing symptoms,
I think (if it was me), I would just thank God everyday &
enjoy your life together. No person or animal is promised
a long life. Would try to live everyday to the fullest &
take it day by day. All The Best from Liz & Buddy.

I'm with you, Liz. If there's nothing else that the vets can do for the best Killi boy, then, as far as I am concerned, you should just count your blessings and love every moment with that beautiful boy. If he is doing good at this point it may ease your worries for a short while, but you will eventually start worrying again, as any loving mom would.

Hang in there my favorite Killi boy. I love you and I am so sorry to hear that you might get sick again

Sue, I can't tell you how much you and your two gorgeous furkids mean to me. I think about you guys often and I have so much respect for you, Sue, for saving your two babies. I can only pray that Killi will surprise the Docs and live out a full, happy, healthy life.

    I voted NO.

Another no vote here. If Killi seems to be feeling fine then there is no need to know otherwise (if, God forbid, that is the case). As you say, there is nothing that can be done so there is no point other than to steal some of the happiness you are now experiencing. Live each day as they come and enjoy each minute. We will all hope for that miracle that you wish for too!

I agree with everyone else, Sue, but support whatever decision you make. We love Killian, just like you do. Whatever makes you feel happy and satisfied will do the same for us.

I also voted no. If the tests can back that things were getting worse, and you already know there is nothing more that you can do, it will oly upset you. Base your assement of his health on how he is feeling and acting. Enjoy your time with him (and hopefully that will be a LLONNNGGGG time!!), don't spend it upset and worrying about him (easier said then done!)

No! Stay positive, that alone can help prolong life. I'd say yes only if there was something you could do. Enjoy every minute you have (as I'm sure you are).

Ops, I guess I'm the only one who has said 'yes' so far. If it was my furbaby, I'd definately want to know.
No matter what you do, I hope your Killian will have a long life ahead of him! Best wishes from us!

    Sue,
I agree with everything that has been said about not having Killi tested if there's nothing else the vet can do. Your love and possitive state of mind will help him fight his liver problems more than any medication.
Chin up!!! We hope he'll be with you for a long, long time yet.
Love to you both from Carina and Alicia

I voted no also for 2 reasons: 1. if there is nothing the vet can do, it would make you feel awful. Plus drawing blood is not that comfortable for the poor animal.
    2. Animals know when you are upset. Killian would know you were upset and that would upset him. Worry could get in the way of keeping him as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

I agree with everyone else. Love him and enjoy each minute you have together. That will go a long way in making him as healthy as possible. My prayers are with you both always.

Dear Sue, you know how much I love Killi. I love him like one of my own, and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him, or a night that goes by that he is not in my prayers. If it is truly so that there is no further treatment to pursue, even should his values be elevated, then I vote no. I think it has been said already. Your positive attitude, your love, your encouragement mean more to maintaining his health than anything! Enjoy him every minute and focus on the positive! I have a feeling Killi's going to be with us a long, long time.
You've got a full squad of cheerleaders here for Killi! You know his song....Killi, Killi, he's our man

Me & my husband talked about this one. We would have to know, so I voted yes. I hope you still have lots of time left with Killi

I also voted no. If Killi does not show any sign of deteriorating I would not put him through the stress of further tests. I would only put him through this if there was something else the vet could do to improve the situation.

I know this is a hard decision for you, you'll be in my thoughts. Give Killi (and Shiloh) a big hug from me.

I also voted no. He will let you know when it is time for more tests and more vet visits. Enjoy every minute with him as he does with you. Positive thinking is amazingly powerful. I feel that both you and Killian will just know when the time is right. But,like Logan said, we support whatever decision you make. The fact that you are thinking of it again may be a sign... Gool luck and my prayers and thoughts are with you and Killian as always.
