    "She's all puffed up,like a teen-age Jezebel!'

I know that cats blow up like a balloon when they're peeved, but do they also inflate when they're just playin'.Not that theres any cure, remedy or otherwise treatment for "so damned excited,I think i'll double in size" syndrome, but this is normal right? I mean her warrenty has expired ,and it'll be hard to return her for a refund.......that is if shes defective.(just kidding,of course)All I'm looking for is a story, an anicdote or even a folk song on the subject. Thanks good cat people!

My kitten does this too. I'm sure it's normal.

My sweet little 7 lb. Belle (oddly enough her full name is Jezebel ) becomes twice her size when she plays. Katie does it sometimes too, but not as much (funny thing is she is exactly twice Belle's size - 14 lbs). I don't know how Belle does it - her tail gets HUGE! I just crack up - they look so funny. This usually happens when her and Katie wrestle. Nothing to worry about, just take some pictures and show us!

    the puff up syndrome

when my cat Jasper see's a dog he fluffs up and gets as big as he can and is not afraid to bound up to a dog. The other day I went to look at my neighbours home Jasper went along with me and on the way back he saw a dog the owner ended up getting the dog out of the way best she could from Jasper, Funny but scarey I'm sure the day will come when a dog will stand up to him I'll just have to wait.

Hi!! We had this discussion a while back, however, I cannot find the post!!! This IS PERFECTLY NORMAL!!! Cats will blow up in size when they are startled OR when trying to "scare off" something larger than they are. Our Nicholas' tail puffs up to about the size of his body when he is startled!!! It is ok and a normal things that cats do!!

I had kittens at adoption day last week, and a dog got too close to the cage. The orange one went into full Kombat Kitty mode, where every hair stood on end!

The tails on both of my girls "wig out" (as I call it) when they see a cat outside or something else they think they should attack!

It is so funny, and I just laugh as their tail gets huge and all the hair on their back is standing up on end! Maybe it is like guys who feel they have to stcik their chest out to make themselves seem like they are bigger than they really are????

Tux will puff up his tail whenever Pesca scares him with one of her famous "Silent Pounces".
