    I gotta Monkey!

Hehe, my nana went over to Africa again, the first time since i last went with her and since my beloved dog James died, the people we were staying with bought me a monkey!!! His name is Emory and he is a 8 month old Spider monkey! I love him to pieces! I will put pictures up if anyone responds...
Owned by Titus, Bob, Alice, Trixie, Honey, Chesterfield, Al, Oreo, Dave, Ed, and Tyr!
In two short months I will have my dream horse, Cesar!

A monkey seems like a much bigger responsibility than a dog.....

They just took a monkey from Africa, or what?? I'm ASSUMING they bought it from a credible breeder and it isn't 100% wild.

...they bought him from Africa and brought him to the US? How did they do that? I believe there are some strict laws against that...or at least it would have to be quarantined for some time. What if it has some kind of disease or something?

Oh I forgot about that when I replied earlier. Yeah there is a BUNCH of paperwork and you have to obtain a permit to own one in the states. And I don't think its possible at all to just bring one via plane to America, ESPECIALLY from a country prone to disease via primates like Africa.

I do agree with Jessika. I don't believe in keeping wild animals as pets, period. But good luck with your monkey they are a HUGE handful, exactly like caring for a toddler for 20+ years!

You are most fortunate, here in NZ it is illegal to own wild animals including monkeys, so you indeed have a prize, can't wait to see his pics, a new PT playmate for Mario eh?

Jessika is partly right about the wild animal thingy, but still, the dog was once wild, and so was the horse, and ect! But I am not saying monkeys are going to be like that, im just saying that some COULD be. So I am still so very happy for you! Show us some pics please!!

Ducks are a lot more domesticated than a monkey from Africa, and that's my point.

And you can't compare the wildness of a monkey to the wildness to that of a dog. Dogs have been domesticated over hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Monkeys have been domesticated.... never.

For some odd reason, that made me laugh really hard. Maybe I'm just in a wierd mood.

Yea anyways...it's usually not a good thing to keep a wild animal in your home. This is a completely different climate than Africa. They don't sell prepackaged monkey food or toys..it's really not ideal. Now if you had a large enclosure designed for a monkey...maybe it would work. But actually the disease thing really bothers me...importing creatures that are not native can wreak havoc.

It's the same thing as having a tiger in your home. Please reconsider bringing it home.
