I had written about introducing a new female kitty to my female kitty. It has been two weeks, separated while we are out and when we are home we let them get to know each other. The resident cat just continues to hiss and growl when faced with the new one. She eventually hides in a corner until the coast is clear, like a really long time. There have been a few actual fights but mostly just stare downs. The new kitty is a bit bigger and is intimidating her. Any more advice?? Are they both spayed? Don't know if it makes any difference.

Also - I heard on here about a vet who boarded cats and let them out together...he dabbed just a bit of aftershave/cologne on each forehead so they all smelled the same.

Might be worth a try.

Also, call your vet and get their take on things. There are some good tips archived on CatAge.com as well.

I think that two weeks is still early days. It may also be that there will always be a situation between the two of them in which the one needs to express dominance over the other. It doesn't mean they are fighting - it's just a natural cat social thing. As long as they are not hurting each other, I wouldn't worry. They will work things out to whatever extent they are going to work things out. It may not suit your dream relationship for them, but when it comes right down to it, you really can't create the way in which they will relate to each other. You have done the right thing in separating them while you are not there, and keeping an eye on them while you are. I have always found it the easiest to adopt two cats together, so one does not establish a sense of territory before the other one comes - but even so, I have found that one develops a sense of dominance, usually right away.

Thank you for your replies. It is difficult but I will just keep working on it. Jett, the resident cat is just terrified of the new cat. She wants to stay in my bedroom while the other cat is out for the most part. Yes, I wish I had gotten two at the same time!! Oh well, I'll just have to be patient I guess. I will ask my vet if it doesn't get any better. My dream for them is to live together in peace at this point. I'd love it if they would be friends though! Update you guys soon!
