Paso Finos

Does anyone have one? Or ever had one? Ever knew anyone that had this kind of horse? It may be something I look into in the near future...so, I'm doing research, and, thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience with them... I'm getting ready to look for some photos, and, I'll try to post one or two!

I'm also looking at Friesians...It's all very much up in the air right now, and, there are many factors that will decide if I can get a horse in the next year...but, it's always something I've wanted, and, the mere thought of it excites me. So, I'm reading!

Yes, I knew one at my old barn Named Eduardo, or Eddie for short. He was sweet but again, that was just one of a whole breed. I would never be able to buy a horse from a breeder unless if was for my breeding program, I would go to CANTER where I can find ex racers for as low as $1000 for partially trained horses. Also, check www.dreamhorse.com for horse clasifieds and go to the advanced search. Goodluck! Where would you keep the horse? At your property or would you board? Boarding in my area is so expensive!

Can you find Paso Finos or Friesians from CANTER? I've never heard of CANTER, tell me about it. I plan to do a lot of research if the opportunity arises where I can actually have a horse. As for where I'd keep a horse or two, I have no idea. As I said, it's something I may be looking into in the next year or so. I may be coming into some money soon, which would mean a move for me. I'm not planning to leave this area, but, I could be in a position to have some land soon. It's all very much up in the air. If I am able to have several acres, I'll be getting a horse or two. That I know. But, again...it's just pie in the sky for now. I've just heard amazing things about Pasos and it sounds like a good breed for a novice like me. They're small and have a gait that is unparallelled according to what I've heard.

If you really want a purebred Paso Fino or Friesian you should check out their breed associations to find farms in you area and visit them to see what horses are for sale.

Hey, thanks for the links. I did look up some breeders in the area, and, I recently met a man who breeds and trains Paso Finos. He gets his horses, too, from Puerto Rico. I think he said he sells his horses for around $5000, but, I can't remember if $5000 was the low end for an untrained horse, or if it was the high end for a trained horse. He was a very intelligent person with a lot of passion for the breed. I have several people that will be helping me with this venture as far as searching for the right horse(s), and, for the right place to keep them. I've taken english riding lessons as a young adult, but, I'd have a lot to learn, that's for sure. I've always known upkeep can be expensive, I don't know exact numbers and there's no reason for me to worry about such specifics right now, as it hasn't even gone in that direction, yet. It's all just a possibility at this point. I'm just brainstorming and trying to see if I got a horse, what kind I would want. If I get a horse, it will receive the best care, just as my dog does. It's not something I will even do if I can't get several acres and a good barn. I'm excited about the possibility, but, I'm not counting my chickens just yet. Of course, if it happens, y'all will know about it.

No, sadly I do not know of anyone who has a Paso Fino. I love Friesians also, I can never find one under $20,000- they are so expensive, they are the Rolls-Royce of the horse world, LOL. My dad has a friend who owns a Friesian, he uses him for re-enactments- beautiful horse! $5,000 for a green broke Paso is a good price, that is how much I was going to pay for Buckwheat (Arabian)- it would be extremely low if the horse had a lot of training.

www.equine.com is my favorite spot to look for horses for sale, I think they are the best by far. Good luck with your search. www.netequine.com is my second favorite. Only two search sites I use.

oops, sorry, I should have said before CANTER is The Communications Alliance Network For Thoroughbred Ex Racehorses, and is for thoroughbreds. I meant myself, because that is the breed I would like to breed (dilutes) I could get a Palomino colt through one of those searches for as low as $5000, and a mare for as low as $1000 at the moment and breed them and hope for a Cremello (25% chance) stud who would stand for at least $1000 depending on quality because the breeding is a guarenteed Palomino (if bred to chestnut) with a chance of cremello if you breed to a palomino. The breeders are charging around $15,000 for palomino colts and fillies and $20,000 for buckskins, and that is solid!!! That is the whole reasoning behind me saying to look at classified ads first before going to breeders. Sorry if I got carried away and hijacked your thread, I just love this color genetics stuff so much!

Thanks guys, for all the info! Like I said, this is just a step up from the dream I've always had of having some land and one or two horses of my own. It's a possibility, and you can all be sure if it becomes a reality, I'll be posting frequently in here!
