    Neptune is home now...

Neptune is the gorgeous blue beta that we adopted at work from Kara. Problem was, I think, that because the lights stay on 24/7, the algae growth is out of control. I clean his tank every 4 days (sometimes less) and in that time, his water gets murky, dirty, nasty. I loved having a desk companion but I don't think it's gonna work. My coworker's beta does just fine though. She has had her's since May and not one algae problem. But her desk is further back and nowhere near the lights/window.

So Neptune is home. I'm hoping that in a darker room I will be able to get this problem under control. If not, I'm going to buy him a new tank and see if that makes a difference.

I sometimes have the same problem with my Mini Bow tank, but I never have to clean it that much.

Lets see some pictures of this gorgeous betta!!!!

What is the size of the tank, and does it have a filter?

hm.. yeah, usually a lot of direct light is bad. Is there any way you can cover his tank with a thin, dark cloth or something when you leave and take it off when you come back in the morning?

You could also try a larger tank, and MAYBE a whisper filter. Are there any live plants in there that could be aiding the algae growth?

    argh, frustrating.

I've never tried algae before as one of my bettas, drapples reacted an allgeric...so am not sure how to help you.

are you using any bio-coats? stress 'chemical'? anything at all? those also could cause murky water quicker.. oh, how much food do you give neptune? what kind too? if you give him flakes (which's rare), no wonder. but if not, rule that out as long as you refreshen neptune's home every four days.

hope one of these will ring a bell and help you! good luck with your decision and I wish to see him, a beau picture soon!
rest and sleep softly sweet locke..
